This is as it should be, for as the University grows and matures it should progress in every respeet. However, inere growth without purpose would be pointless. It was for this reason that the University Board of Trustees devoted tiine and study and, eventually, gave approval to what have beeoine known as Southern's objeetives. It is fitting that the Obelisk this year has been produeed in aeeordanee with these objeetives, and I wish to express personal appreeiation for seleetion of this thenie. Perhaps it is not unreasonable to expect that as the Qbelisk gives emphasis to the objeetives of the University, students inay pause to give more Careful eonsidera- tion to their own objeetives and the prineiples whieh govern eaeh person's eonduet day to day. A student without definite objectives is an edueational wanderer, and it usually follows that sueh an individual is unaware of the preeiousness of tiine.
