LENTZ History torium is also available for entertainments and weelcly meetings of organizations and clubs, as well as for larger services to the community. An example of the latter was the Federal Arts Exhibit held there from Febru- ary Q3 to March 7. Fifty paintings by some of the most famous of Americals modern painters were mounted on newly constructed screens under the direction of Burnett Shryoclc. The exhibit officially opened with an address by Gerard Lambert, Head of the Southern Illinois Eederal Arts Project, and a program presented by the college string quartet. Miss Gladys 'Williams and Burnett Shryoclc of the Art Department acted for thelcollege in arranging this exhibition, and Mrs. Clyde Smith headed a committee of townspeople who worlced wit them. After being closed for fifteen years, the College Museum was recently reopened under the custodianship of Mary Goddard and Fred Cagle. Vtfhen the museum was moved to a new location in the Parkinson Labor- atory, the staff made a complete index of all specimens and revised the case displays. Wham, Dr. Bruce Nlerwin, Dr. Marie Hinrichs, and Miss Florence Denny. These meetings are open to students who have had or are taking practice teaching, to students vvho have already held teaching positions, and to members of the college and training school laculty, Already the clinics have accomplished much in aiding children who have been unable to adjust themselves to school worlc and life. During the last year and a hall the extensive improvements and repairs on campus buildings made possible by the P. W.A. Federal Worlcs Project have greatly added to the efficiency of many college departments, notably the Wheeler Library and the public spealcing division ol the English Department. The whole second Floor of the library, formerly used lor storage, is novv a reserve boolc section with a separate delivery deslc, two reading rooms, and ci staclc unit used mainly For reserve boolcs. The museum has also instituted an exchange service with other museums by means ol which the stall hopes to build up a collection of plants and animals representative ol various types throughout the United States. President Pulliam has placed Bruce Mervvin, Mary Steagall, Kenneth Van Lente, Thomas Barton, Qtis Young, Vtfillard Ciersbacher, lfussell Nolen, William Bailey, and john ivlfright on o Museum Governing Board, which is carrying on an investigation ol the possible source ol' historial objects relating to the history ol Southern lllinois. A number ol interesting and valuable additions to departmental services have been made this year.
