Vice Presidents Initiations, Meetings And Proposals Are Duties Of Vice Presidents Often we see the vice presidents walking across campus, or in the Union. If we aren't acquainted with them, we think they are un- ooncerned or too busy to listen lo our problems. When we come to know them, we find they are in- dividuals who really care about the students. Improving the counseling and tu- toring services in the college resi- dence halls, and initiating several workshops dealing with the im- provement of student personnel administration, were projects Dr. Donald Haefner, Vice President of Student of Affairs continued to de- velop from the previous year. Writing proposals for federal grants, compiling reports for HEW, aiding in the appropriation of other programs on campus. and yearly trips to Washington. D. C.. to study the federal programs are among many of Dr. Charles Iackson's du- ties as Vice President of Adminis- trative Research and Federal Pro- grams. In the summer, Dr. Iackson attended the 1972 Institute for Edu- cational Management, conducted at Harvard University Business School at Cambridge, Massachu- setts. ln the fall, changes were made by Dr. L. A. Logan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, in the nurs- ing, psychology, sociology, social science and English areas for nurs- ing majors, in order to meet stand- ards of the National League of Nursing. Along with changes in the in- structional program, Dr. Logan's duties include revising and assem- bling catalog materials, scheduling and preparing the agenda for facul- ty meetings, recommending faculty committee appointments and desig- nating the duties of committees. Board of Trustees Board Institutes Master Of Education Program To Serve Needs Of Teachers Having had several special meet- ings as well as their regular meet- ings dealing with the role and the scope of the institution, the Board of Trustees approved by a unani- mous decision the recommendation made by President Bruce that steps be taken toward instituting a Mas- ter of Education degree to serve the educational needs of the teachers living within commuting distance of the College campus. The trustees also approved the budgets to be submitted through the Department of Higher Educa- tion to the legislature for 1973 through 1975, including the financ- ing and renovation of, as well as the addition to, Overstreet Hall auditorium. and the construction of a new classroom building. ln addition to this, the Board of Trustees also approved a contract for the replacement of most of the roofs on the major buildings.

Administrators, Counselors Emphasis Placed On Career Guidance for Undecided Students Personal, social, and academic counseling is a part of the daily routine of the Counseling Center. ln the area of counseling, special emphasis was placed on career guidance for students who had not chosen a major. Tests and occupa- tional materials were made avail- able for these students. Enlargement of the tutoring pro- gram went into effect at the begin- ning of the school year, The serv- ices were free. and a student could receive assistance in almost any subject area. A two-day training workshop for the special service staff was conducted August 17-18. During the year special service personnel attended numerous meetings. They included attendance at the regional Meeting of Directors of Special Services, Arkansas Education Re- search and Development Council meeting and the Association of School Administrators. The special services program also added a course in basic science for students who failed to get the necessary background in high school science.
