dministrators Everyone Appreciates BERNARD H. POLK Director of Student Aids A: 'YB Applications for student work on campus go through the office of Bernard Polk, Director of Fi- nancial Aid. Authorization for work-study payments is made by his office. He also supervises loans, grants and scholarships for the students. All students come in contact with Mrs. Ann Thomas and Paul Kirkpatrick, Counselors. They ad- minister the ACT test, Sophomore test and the grad- uate tests. The counselors work with students in personal problems and school related problems. The Registrar's Office, manned by James Smyth, keeps a record of every student from the time of his application to SSC until his graduation. Prospec- tive students apply to this office and are accepted, or sometimes rejected, as students. As graduation nears, hopeful graduates go over credits and file applications for degrees. As Secretary of the Alumni Association and Edi- tor of the Southern Stater, Milton Talley still main- tains his close relationship with the students. Business Manager R. H. Cole and Margaret Atchison, Accountant, work closely in supervising the money handled at the college. The budget is pre- pared and a detailed account of expenditures is maintained in their offices. 4, Mr. R. B. Gandy, Director of Public Relations, is the driving force behind student publications. Publications, News and Public Relations Director of Public Relations and Assistant Pro- fessor of Journalism, R. B. Candy supervises publi- cation of The Bray and Mulerider, and the News Bureau while also instructing journalism classes. He is aided in these activities by a barage of student workers, Mrs. Stanley Hipp, and Mrs. Bonnye Powell. Mrs. Stanley Hipp is in charge of the News Bureau. She keeps the news media informed when members of our collegiate community excel in a field or participate in some special activity. : 'Ik l F7 1 Mrs. Bonnye Powell has the iob of keeping the print shop on schedule. Director of the News Bureau, Mrs. Stanley Hipp, keeps the lines of communication open between the student and his hometown. i
