w x w w WINTHROP ROCKEFELLER Governor of Arkansas I' in ., . .. . -L f I ji? . ' ,.... '-Qi? K MZQQJ, ' w OFFICI OF TNI GOVIINOI ' STATE or Aluvmsss wmmnor Roca: uvuuu LITTLE ROCK GREETINGS TO THE STUDENTS OF SOUTHERN STATE COLLEGE: It pleases me to have the opportunity of sharing in the record of your school year through your 1968 Mulerider. I have stated many times that my Administration is striving for an Era of Excellence. Such an era can come only if we all recognize education ae one of the vital foundation blocks. Recently, I called the first Governor's Conference on Education - a significant step toward transferring ideas into action. Another stride forward has been the organization of the non-partisan Governor's Youth Council, the two-fold purpose of which shall be to function in an advisory capa- city to the Governor on matters concerning youth and to keep our youth informed on the matters of state government. You have a representative of the Council in your school and it is my hope that each of you will take an active role in the Council through your representative. As students, your responsibility is to make the nnst of your opportunities to study and prepare yourself to be productive citizens of our State, able to make meaningful contributions to our society. What happens to Arkansas in the future will depend on you and our great need is for knowledgeable young people, with fresh ideas and dedication, to meet the challenges of tomorrow. I am hopeful that you realize the faith that I and so many others have in your abilities and potential. I pledge myself to continued efforts in building the kind of state in which you will want to live, and I look forward to working with you to make our Era of Excellence a reality. With all good wishes, Winthrop Rock eller X Governor
