CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES' Hi Gang! Another year is going by. Gee Whiz, it seems like only yester- day that school started. We found a few new teachers on the staff: Mr. Steve Pucsok, Mr. Howard Kinch, Mr. John Minotti, Mrs. Ellen Westover, and Mr. Albert Holb. On September 21, the Seniors held the first dance of the school years. Then on September 24, Mr. Cassiday of the CASSIDAY DANCE STUDIOS in Alliance, came and began a series of dance lessons. October 19 the Seniors had their pictures taken by Mr. Davis from Massillon. School on Saturday will never become popular. November was a very eventful month, especially for the Juniors. They held the annual Homecoming Dance the 9th. Marjorie Mc- Peak was crowned queen of S. H. S. The 13th of November the Director of Admissions of Hiram Col- lege talked to the Seniors about going to College. The morning of the 16th all the students were examined for Sugar Diabetis con- ducted by Mrs. Caldwell of the County Health Department. The Student Council sponsored a round and square dance. November 21 the Juniors gave their play, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, under the direction of Miss Adele Phillips. Good play Juniors! And then it came, the long awaited Thanksgiving vaca- tion. November 29th we played our first basketball game, with Hiram. Then the beautiful but snowy month of December came along. The 16th Kenny Lewis was elected captain of the football team for the next season. Three cheers for Kenny! ! Came the 20th and we bade a farewell to our classmates clutching our Senior pictures and floundering through ice and snow but not for long, you see, Christmas vacation was here and home again. January 2 everyone came back fresh from Christmas vacation. January 10 was a happy day for the Juniors, they received their class rings. Southeast attempts a new project, a newspaper. The 11th the first edition of the PIRATES' PRIDE came off the press. The 19th the Seniors' had a mid-year semi-formal dance at Charles- town. Hail to February, the month of hearts and flowers. Mr. Miller, vocal teacher, is added to the faculty. The 2 of February, the Varsity S Club had a March of Dimes Dance, with Ellen Hartzell and Herb Behner reigning as King and Queen. Mr. Laczko takes over the shop instruction as we bid farewell to Mr. Hofus. The 22 being George Washingtonis birthday, was a holiday for the students. It also marked another important event. Mr. Holb stopped school long enough to get married and take a week's honeymoon in Ber- muda. Congratulations Mr. Holb! ! The 26th we were pleasantly greeted with the beautiful voices of the Vocalaires from Sebring High School. Also in the evening of the 26th the mixed chorus of which we are proud, sang at Ravenna Township School and was quite a success. The Student Council had a round and square dance the 28thg very successful dance, kids. April lst, the Home Economics Class went on an all day tour of the M. O'Neil Store in Akron. They tell me that they had a wonderful time, thanks to Mrs. Coffman, who was responsible for the whole thing. The 2nd, the .Juniors took a trip to Nela Park, to see all about electricity. Another big event took place the 4th, the Seniors gave their play. It was also held over and given the 5th. The name of the play was MUSIC IN THE VALLEYH. Starting the 10th and running through the 15th, we had our Easter vacation. We came back to finish the year and the end was creeping closer every day. Some students were pretty happy about it. But the Seniors were a little blue, just think kids, no more studying and cramming for tests. May - - gee - - school is at an end again. This month was filled with lots of things, the big events were the Prom which the Juniors gave for the Seniors on the 10th of May, Baccalaureate the 18th, and then she big step, Commencement the 23th. And with that school c ose . Page Twenty-Two HOMECOMING DANCE On November 2, each class elected candidates for a Home- coming Queen. Candidates were Marjorie McPeak, Helen Notman, Joyce Richards, Inez Landrum, Janet Williams, and Ruth Bla- sens. The student body elected Marjorie McPeak, queen for this occasion. The Queen's court at- tendants were the other candi- dates. Steve Pelo and Cecil Kerly, co-football captains, assist- ed in the crowning. This Home- coming Dance was Friday, No- vember 9th, following the final football game with Atwater. Juniors were the sponsors and a large crowd attended. JEANNE VOGEL ' The student body chose Jeanne Vogel as the Southeast candidate for a Snowball Queen contest held at a special all-county dance at Randolph on Saturday, December 29, 1951. We are proud of our representative, Jeanne. PEGGY HOSKINS Our school is very proud to have such a good cook as Peggy Hos- kins. She won a trip to New York by entering the National Junior Pillsbury Cake Baking Contest. She was royally entertained dur- ing her 3 day stay at the Waldorf- Astoria Hotel, with dinners, flow- ers, and personal appearances. She received a stove, electric mixer, table and chair, and 350. This all happened on December 7, 8. and 9, and weire happy about Peggy's good fortune. ...ll-1.1 'RAMONA GAY BUSSE In March of 1951 Miss Busse received highest honors for voice in district competition.
