With a world history book propped against his briefcase, Mr. Robert Sweeney assigns reports. Q 1 'Ny Miss Elizabeth Pugh explains some terms to her world history class. Holding a soap carving, Mr. Cecil Patterson dis- cusses careers in art with a citizenship class. Mr. E. Allen Smith explains a detail of the text to his senior social studies class. History and Modern Problems Concern Social Studies Classes The goal of social studies teachers is to teach students the value of respect- ing an individual's rights, living with others peacefully and knowing and ful- filling their responsibilities. Besides the traditional history courses, Southeast offers two social studies classes which study modern pro- blems and means of expression. Under Mrs. Linda Buckle's direc- tion, the humanities class - initiated this year - examined subjects such as art, music and anthropology. Frequent group discussion was accentuated by films, lectures and field trips. Family relations is designed to help students understand their parental home better as well as plan for their future family. Other topics include eti- quette, insurance and child psychology.
