Back in the days when he was an eager freshman, when he ran up the wrong side of the stairs, or when he became lost in the Castle, he looked forward to this-his graduation day-so vaguely distant at times. Now that it is here, it frightens him. Thoughtfully he reviews his four years of high school. They now seem to have been ex- tremely short-all too short and assuming the nature of a wonderful dream. But like all dreams, it ends as suddenly as it began and he is now faced with the reality of the future. The teachings of the class room suddenly loom be- fore him as stepping stones to the future. He cannot turn back, he must go forward. Congratulations to you, Worthy Knight, and success to you in your quest for future achieve- ment. enior M ALMAMCOCP5IR.AN giftorian 14 marry COCHRAN geeffewy ,LZ ., ' ff-'5 -' 2 . 1.2, iz lg 4, v ,f f 941 'KW gy: f S W 5 Ai? - , I if R. For two years he has intermittently worked and played and has advanced step by step. He knows that certain goals must be reached and that he must work harder if he wishes to attain Knighthood. Both his school work and his extra-curricular activities have increased with each year, and and he knows that a good Knight must prepare himself, not only for serious work, but for recreation. i Reminiscently he looks back on his previous years, and although he has thought this year his best, he realizes that this same thought has come with each year. So with great hope Qand anxietyl he awaits his final glory-the attainment of Knighthood. . lfmior A !6L15.'5 Ummm , 0-R, we 1 s s I 7 l Bob Witt Marilyn Gibby Bob Marshall Jo Ann Soxman Jackie jenkins 4 Bud Laughlin Don Williamson President Vice-President Secretary Treasurer Giftorian Publicity Sgt.-at-Arms S i 42 We 39 R QW' . i' as A K Q ,. 5 , ,5 2., t,VV,..'f im ,.3:5,3w1g3:-:hz-1' -V :V:y. 115.93 V H rx- V fe x Wx. 3 152:21 '1- 1 '?fErErE15:E:E2Ef i?c- '-:zizf 1:1-:' , , ..,::-:2:2:-:',fi2:2E1aEx 45:14 'gigi n g' '1f'131::,:52 .2-2 :- H ., V , 33,5 , 1 1 4 . rgsfgj-5, 5.55155 -4f5w:1?E:1' 'ag -,: if QQ an 1 ' ' ,:1g,V: ,,V-, , e ir 1 2 , rf '- t 'EM ., 3' '. x:2i'i3ifS3:2EfE2,1:55 ,gf ' 'mr MQ -- , 1 Aw 1 Dfw- 'W xx, .2 A4, ' :,1 ,, ,K 1 Q V. 26' ! 7 If 4 , .M ' :53rS:V. -Q. -5255551512: 555255 ff Q ' f ,V 51 1, A-:::::::::f:::.. f al ' 31 Q . -:: - ..:,:- W Q3-1-.. Gradually, however, this confusion xanished as the Pages proceeded tim- idly through the haze of high school and emerged as Heralds. They became familiar with the history, traditions, and regulations of South- east High. Their fields of interest broadened as they became eligible for sports and participa- tion in various activities of school life. The sophomores became more interested in cultivat- ing new friendships and in establishing and maintaining higher scholastic standing for themselves. They became acquainted with the library Qsometimes through desire but often by requestj. Some have become interested in art, some in speech, others in music, athletics, shop, or languages. The participants Were Shirley McDon- ald, Howard Harrenstein, Paul Walkup, Foster Redding, Martha Ellen Cole, and Billy Booy. Robert Clark was ready to act as substitute had one of the other six been absent. As was the custom in an old-fashioned spelling bee, each contestant dropped out of the contest when he missed a question. Foster Redding was presented a twenty-Hve dollar savings bond for winning first place, and Billy Booy who was a close second received a check for ten dollars. The curtain rose on the colorful stage set- ting, designed by Patty Lynn and constructed by Mr. Boyd Johnson and his stage crew. Three large bells, lent by the J. C. Nichols Company, hung from the top of the stage and formed the center attraction. Perhaps the most fascinating number pre- sented Was the Indian bells Which portrayed an ancient tribal dance in beautiful feather cos- tumes lent by the Mic-O-Say tribe of the Boy Scouts. South American 'music and dancing by the Cuban Belles was definitely a bright spot in the production. In evening dress, the Beta couples presented a mock wedding. Round and round We go with the Merry-go- round, the Ink Spots and the song Carousel . Light comedy included the dumbbelles or 'tComic Strip Characters and the dinner bell or What Size Grapefruit Do You Wear,', by the girl and boy senior lines respectively. N.B.C. Chimes or Nothing but Corni' lived up to its name and provoked much laughter from the audience. The faculty, dressed as young children, sang Mister, Have You Got an Apple on a Stick? They followed their song with a dance. After playing to a full house both nights, November 22 and 23, the final curtain came down on a happy, but tired, group of teachers and students who had Worked together success- fully to present the sixth production of Knight- lites at Southeast. s if 1 3. ,M it my V N 1. .r n L i ...go ' v -. The Southeast team has always proved a worthy contender and always provides its share of thrills. The 1946 Knight team first played a non-league game with the Hornets of North Kansas City High School. The Hornets were stung by a 12-0 set-back. This was the first time in eight years that the Knights were able to beat the Hornets. The following week Southeast met the Manual High School squad, but the result was a 7-6 score in the Cardinals' favor. Southeast lost the two following games to Southwest and Central with the scores of 21-6 and 21-7, respectively. This placed the Knights in last position in the league. The next game was the biggest upset of the year. The Knights defeated the league leading Northeast Vikings 6-0. Filled with confidence, the Knights came back in the next games to de- feat Westport 24-7 and East met the same fate 6-0. The Knights tied for third place in the In- terscholastic League when they triumphed over the Paseo Pirates. Individual players were well rewarded for their excellent work. Kenneth Soxman, South- east's all-round end and a two-year letterman, was the only Knight on the First Team All-Star squad. Leslie Yohn, tackle, Don Baldwin, a two- year letterman at end, and Bud Laughlin, gal- loping fullback and only a junior, all made the Second Team All-Star squad. Bill White and Jim Fister, guards, gained honorable mention for their fine playing. Southeast wishes to congratulate coaches Cecil Patterson and Charles Huhn, as well as the team, for a most exciting and successful football season. QCOVL xQl86'LlWL 3 E ' .
