Charren' of the Coznpfe: Left to right, Bill Gerig, vice-president, joan Hatrendorf, social council, julia Easter- day, social council, Miss Mary Graham, adviser, Rosie Roof, social council, Mr. H. McClure, adviser, Nancy Evans, secretary-treasurer, and Dick Brantingham, president. They Revzcbecz' Their Pow' When you walk through a storm . . . We are seniors, and it won't be long until graduation. We have actually come to the end of our voyage through high school, and, as we are preparing to face rougher seas, it is fun to recall the tears and blushes along with the laughs, honors, and good times which have made our four years on the good ship South Side worth remembering. We may have been greenies at the wheel, but we were the first class to hold a Freshman Frolicf' My, were we important! Our sophomore year, we advanced in the rigging and elected class officers to chart the way. Dick Brantingham received the honor of president and went right on presiding the next two years. joan Hat- tendorf, Julia Eastetday, Rosie Roof, Jim Frey, and Kenny Scrogham were also chosen in the line of duty with Miss Edith Rein' and Mr. Robert Petty, advisers, to keep the ship on' the shoals. April Showers, the sophomore party, fell our way, and everyone laughed long and hard at the antics of masters of ceremonies, Guerry McNabb and Ellis Ralston. Sailing on to Port junior, we all enjoyed our first class banquet, Our Hearts Are Young and Gay. This was the carefree year, and We sailed happily through foul weather and fair with the same officers at the helm and Miss Shirley Maloney and Mr. jack Morey to pilot us. We'll never forget those pink and black decorations as we danced through our prom, Street of Dreams. Then came more ship shaking with all-night parties and a breakfast at Foster Park. We are here at last, seniors, and captains of the ship. Never could the voyage have been more fun without all the wonderful mates on board ship. Wfe elected Dick Brantingham, Bill Gerig, Nancy Evans, Rosie Roof, julia Easterday, and joan Hattendorf to the officers' bridge. Wfith Miss Mary Graham and Mr. J. H. McClure to give adult counsel, we started smooth sailing with our Senior Reception and parties afterwards. Then came the Alumni Dance where we got our first tales of college from last year's seniors. The feeling of class unity was uppermost as we all rocked with laughter at our banquet, Down Memory Lane. In April came our senior play, Cuckoos on the Hearth, a mystery-comedy which frightened more than one of us sophisticated seniors. Tom Sites, Mary Val Crouse, Stan Lipp, john johnson, Jane Zeiler, Karen Keller, Colleen Liddy, Norma Jacobs, Tom Arnold, Neal Berryhill, and Bob Ryker made up the cast. Recognition Day and Ivy Day followed in quick suc- cession along with the never, never-to-be-forgotten Senior Prom. We realized the seriousness of the event as we attended the Baccalaureate Sermon, and now we are ready, ready for graduation and to set sail at last. As we are preparing to set sail, we must remember that not all the skies will be blue. Even though our horizons may sometimes seem dark and our ship of life headed for the rocks, always, wherever you go, whatever you do . . . keep your chin up high. 9
