Dimps is a very active member of the Executive Committee and Optimist Staff. She belongs to the Epsilon Iotas S.C. MARION ALEXANDER President of the National Honor Society. Bebe” belongs also to the executive committee. Optimist staff, library staff, and the N.A.A.C.P. She plans to attend Montclair State. Her enthusiasm is for progressive jazz, mathematics, and tennis. Says Bebe.” “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. LA MONT BOLDEN La Mont enjoys playing chess and skating. He is a member of the National Honor Society and President of his Class. Lai Mont picks Math, Latin, and Science as his favorite subjects. In T.V. viewing you will find him watching the Red Skelton Show and the Late Show. Rutgers will be the place for La Mont in the future. ARTHUR BOSEMAN Say Fella’ , is Bose’s motto. Plans to attend Newark State Teachers College. Secretary of the National Honor Society, and member of the executive committr , she plans to attend Newark State College, to become-a teacher. Rita enjoys bowling, movies, and reading. Her favorite saving is, Experience is the best teacher.” MAYRA MARTINEZ “Love thy neighbor” says Mayra, whose hobbies are reading and watching television. Mayra likes JACQUELINE McCLENDON A little more effort is always worthwhile” says Jackie, who is a member of the Spanish club and the Junior Girl’s Glee Club. JOSEPH PERRY Says “Kent, A man who tries is bound to succeed.” College-bound, with law as his goal, he’s been on the projection and library staffs, sung in mixed chorus and in his church senior choir, and belonged to Junior Red Cross, International Masons, and YMCA. HELEN NAOMI PITTS Secretary of her class and a member of the executive committee. Helen has contributed greatly to the twirlers (of whom she is captain) and to the Optimist. A devotee of history, she enjoys jazz music, football, and basketball. Reading is her hobby; “You’re right!” is her saying. RONALD PORTER “Porter pb ns to go to engineering school after graduation. He can always be found at Olympic Park skating rink on Thursday nights or home watching “Yogi Bear”. “Porter en-jovs football and skating. His favorite subjects are Physics and History. WALTER R. QUEEN Walt’s motto is, “If you can't do it nobody can!” He has served in the Senior band for three years and has been a member of the Library Staff and on the Soccer team. CONSTANCE DEARTHUR RANSOME “Ain’t messin’ with it,” says future nurse “Dearthur.” A singer in the Young Adults’ Choir, she lists sewing and cooking as her chief hobbies indoors and swimming and skating as prime sports. Thus versatile young lady was a senator and member of Carden Club and Service Club. Her outside activities include Junior Hadassah. As far as the movies go, Judy picks Sophia Loren and Kirk Douglas. Her food is steak. JEFFERSON SIMPKINS. JR. For “Junn” there’s the prospect of further study at Newark Vocational School. This friendly, easy-going senior has surprisingly vigorous tastes in music: jazz and rhythm-and-blues. Basketball and football are his athletic choices. On TV, it’s “The Fugitive.’’ KENNETH L. STEWART It’s to be the Marine Corns for Kenny, who streaks along with the harriers of our outdoor track team. He’s found mechanical drawing and history the most fascinating high-school courses. Basketball is his prime hobby for exercise, and jazz is his listening delight. CARRION SIMMONS Alona, an outstanding girl in her Senior Class, is a member of the Executive Committee, the Optimist Staff and Treasurer of her Homeroom. She enjoys classics and spirituals. Alona’s future plans are to attend college, where sne will major in Elementary Education. LAMAR TIMMONS Howard University is Lamar’s goal. Joe Bo has been a mainstay of the baseball team and an avid basketball fan. Musically, he prefers jazz and rock n’ roll. NEAL1E ANN ALBRITTON Ann, whose favorite expression is, How sweet it is,” plans to attend an IBM school after graduation. Her pastimes include talking on the phone and listening to African drum music. Optimist Staff, G. O. Senate, and Young Adult Choir are some of her extra-curricula rs. Tootsie wants to attend the University of Iowa. DELPHIAN ALEXANDER “Carron,” who expects to become a typist, is socially very busy. Secretary of La Jeune Filles, she belongs to Morton Street Youth Council and The Newark Jets. Health, mathematics, and English rank high with her. She likes knock hockey, skating, basketball, and baseball. 31 EUNICE ARRINGTON When things aren’t going well, you may often hear the Monster” say: “Such is life.” He plans to become a social worker, in order that he. may help others. He is a member of the Madrigals and mixed chorus. “Monster” has held the office of Vice President of the G.O. EI«AINE ASHMON Seek and you shall find,” says Foxie whose goal is to be a social worker. At South Side she belonged to the Red Cross, Service Club and Vesta-varions. History- and Science were her favorite subjects. In her spare time she can be found bowling or listening to jazz. Elaine is the last of the Ashmon’s to attend South Side. ROCHAI BAILEY Says Miss Bailey: ‘They call me Chai, and 1 definitely dig jazz. I am looking forward to being a clerk-typist when I leave South Side. I belong to the Executive Committee, Senate, and G.O. Patrol. My favorite subjects arc typing and machine operations. WAYNE BANKS Wayne, a future accountant, says, “Woo Cal.” A member of the basketball team and singer in Boys Glee Club, he digs rock n’ roll and jazz, with “Cast Your Fate to the Wind’1 his favorite tune. DIANE B ASKER VI I,LE Good-natured “Dc,” a respected worker in Red Cross and Library' Staff, loves rock ’n’ roll, and voted He’s So Fine” her top tunc. She plans to go to college. U.S. History is her favorite school subject; Route 66, her best-liked television show. DONALD BASKNICHT Bonneville .Don digs all kinds of modem music and wants to be an electrician. Snorts that he likes are football, baseball, boxing, and basketball. He also enjoys skating and working on bis automobile. His words to all: Be nice.” MICHAEL BASKERVILLE A member of Barons Athletic Club and a star player on that club’s baseball team. “Shawnee” hopes to become a big-league baseball pro. MARY BAXLEY Tutiepic” says “Thats the way love is.” To be a nurse is her ambition. Baseball and Track are her hobbies. She is the fan of Burt Lancaster. She is a member of the Senate. Jazz and Rock 'n Roll she also enjoys. Favorite subjects are History and Health. TV shows are “The Nurses and “Sandy’s Hour.” MERCY BELL “Mcrt” plans to be a nurse. In her spare time she enjoys drawing and playing records. She’s a member of mixed chorus and senior girls' glee club. Cry to Me and “Hey, Little Girl” are ner top tunes. Art, English, and Physical education have been her favorite subjects. FRANK BENNETT Frank is a lover of classical music and modeling and remodeling cars. Frank’s plans are going to college. MILDRED BENNETT Teaching is the field Mildred plans to enter. A member of the twirlers, she loves sewing, dancing, kickbali, and softball. Spanish, clerical typing, basketball, and tennis are favorites. 34 DREW BLAKELY Drew plans to go to college and enter the field of medicine. He is a great lover of art and does a lot of drawing. Music is another hobby. He loves all sports and is a member of the soccer and baseball teams. CHARLES WADE “You know what I mean.” says Charlie,” looking at a good football game or playing one. He has future plans of attending college although undecided about which one. He is a member of the Spanish Club and the Executive Committee. Favorite subject: History. Favorite music: jazz. f JOHNNIE WADLEY Tm with that.” Nursing is the field that Bonita” intends to conquer. In her spare time, she listens to tne radio. She is an active member of the French Club. Typing and health are her favorite subjects. She swoons over Yul Brynner and Sophia Loren. ELOUISE CAROLYN WALKER “Never starf anything without finishing it” is Pee Wee's motto. Business college or a singing career are her future choices. Her best-liked subjects arc law and typing. She appears in South Side's talent shows and is pianist for the Cospelettes. LUCILLE WALLACE A member of the Tuosi Debs is “Meechie,” who plans to be a nurse. Her favorite subjects were biology, U.S. History, and gym; while The Beverly Hillbillies” and Dr. Kildare” rated as greatest TV programs. Some words to remember: Woo Cal. SAUNDRA WALLACE “Poochie” says, My heart has a mind of its own”. Saundra works in her spare time, but her hobbies are kick-ball and baseball. “Poochie” has served two years on service club and she was an active member of Senate for a half year. 85 VALERIE WALLACE Val” says “Wisdom comes, but knowledge lingers.’' She enjoys skating, swimming. La tin-American and rock ’n’ roll tor her music. She is a member of the Madrigals and mixed chorus. She is also a member of the Noble Debs S.C. PAMELA WATERS Current State President of F.B.L.A., Angel” is useful and busy also in Assembly Council, N.C.C.J., Spanish Club, All-State Chorus. Madrigals, and Mixed Chorus. Her favotite types of music are jazz, opera, and classics. Favorite subjects: Spanish, English, history, and—naturally—music. NORMAN WALTERS “Mickey” says, “Never start anything you can’t finish.” He plans to start and finish college. He’s a member of the baseball team, the senior band, the Spanish and F.B.L.A. Clubs, and a singer in his church choir. Piano and guitar are his instalments. EDWARD WARD Worm’s” famous saying, Well all right,” applies to his plans of entering business school. A member of the service club adds rock 'n’ roll and jazz to his favorites. The Hillbillies” and Twilight Zone” are his shows. Football, track and basketball, his favorites. Math and history are his top subjects. CHARLES WATKINS 'Teddy Bear” plans to become a member of the Armed Forces. Treasurer of the Courtnicrs Social Club, he digs jazz. History, economic geography, and sports made a hit with him while at South Side. Westerns and mysteries are his favorite TV programs. ELEANOR WATKINS Rita is always looking to have a good time. She enjoys reading, and listening to records, such as “A Casual Look, and “Oh, My Love.” She is a member of the Ouasi Debs S.C. For the future she plans to be an elementary school teacher. 86 LORRAINE WATSON Raine,” a cheerleader, Madrigal singer, a member of the Mixed Chorus, Optimist Staff, and the Red Cross, spends most of her time mamboing in the Latin League”, singing, and skating. You will always find Lorraine rooting for football and track. CAROL WELLS Business school is the choice of “Pudgee.” ■She’s sure of her judgment, because stenography, typewriting, and machine operations have proved so congenial to her. Singing in her church choir and jazz are two musical loves. Carol also enjoys watching football and basketball. WALTER WATSON 'Those are the breaks,” exclaims Big Walt”. He plans to join the navy and study engineering. His favorite subjects are Mechanical Drawing and French. Walter enjoys watching Twilight Zone” and The Beverly Hillbillies. Football and basketball are the sports he enjoys the most. THOMAS WEILER Big Tom,” Assistant Treasurer of the school, hopes to attend college in 1964 and become a certified public accountant. He is on the Service Club Staff; lists bookkeeping and algebra as his favorite subjects. He also likes slow dancing and romantic music. YVONNE WEST Peaty sings in her church choir, but likes jazz and rock ’n’ roll too. Example: Be My Baby.” Having found typewriting and stenography excellent subjects, she's determined to study them further in business school. She enjoys baseball and playing cards. She is a member of the Noble Debs S.C. and enjoys listening to rock 'n’ roll. She is a member of the Senate and Twirlers. ARTIS WILLIAMS “Tiddy” is a present track star and a future draftsman. As you’d expect, mechanical drawing gets his vote. He belongs to Egyptian Gods and Jazz Council, and stands up for -jazz and rock V roll. Artis likes to watch football, “Cunsmokc,” and Sammy Davis, Jr. BERNADINE WILLIAMS Law and mathematics, football and swimming, Frank Sinatra and sewing —all are favorites with Bunny. CHARLES WILLIAMS Bennie” says “It doesn’t mutter whether you win or lose, it’s the way you play the game.” He likes to build his body and to lift weights. History, shop, health, and gym are his favorite subjects. 88 ERNEST WILLIAMS A member of garden chib and stage crew, and singer in mixed chorus and boys’ glee club, J.C.” sets his sights on the Air Force. He thinks chemistry and English are top subjects ami prefers rock ’n’ roll music. You Lost the Sweetest Boy” is his tune. GWENDOLYN WILLIAMS Bow” plans to attend IBM school. She is an active member of the Red Cross. English and U.S. History are But Definitely her favorite subjects. When she is not listening to roclc ’n’ roll, she watches Dr. Kildare. CEORCE WILLIAMS George is a member of. the senior band, business department, and ex-ecutive committee of the senior class. His future plan is to attend a good business college. Recreations are riding or driving sports cars and listening to rock 'n roll or jazz. “This is it!” LA VERNE WILLIAMS “The Outer Limits” is La Verne's far-out TV favorite. In South Side she has preferred typewriting. Cirls' Vocational Tech is ncr next school. She likes to skate and to watch football, but indoors it's rocking to rock 'n roll tunes. MARY WILLIAMS ‘Try hard and you shall succeed,” says Mousie,” who is heading for Berkeley Secretarial School. For many years her goal has been to be a secretary. Her favorite subjects are U.S. History and typing. Rock ’n’ roll and jazz are the preferred types of music. JOANN WILLIAMS These few years at South Side have been the most enjoyable of all,” confides “Joey.” A future nurse, she's helped the school in Service Club, supported the athletic teams, and enjoyed her classes, especially English and chemistry. She loves the wonderful students and faculty of South Side.” 89 MATTHEW WILLIAMS Sandy’s hobby is photography. He enjoys popular music and he is a member of the school band. EVERETT WILSON “Anything worth doing Is worth doing well.” For Everett bookkeeping, accounting, swimming, and track do seem worth doing well. He’s been active also in F.B.L.A. and Optimist Staff. His goal is business college. For recreation, Everett favors TV and modern music. SAMUEL WILSON “What about it?” asks “Bud.” He’s liked history and shop, and expects to go to a business school. Modem jazz and rock ’n’ roll are his favorite types of music. W'atching movies is another hobby. For sports he favors baseball ana football. DOLORES W1NKEY Dolores, better known as “VVinkley.” expects to add charm to the world by becoming a beautician. Energetic and sociable, she loves skating and r x‘k ’n’ roll. W’hen there’s no studying to be done, Winkely” employs her spare time typing or sewing. WILLIAM WILSON 90 GERALDINE WRIGHT “How about that?” asks “Jerry.” She always has a smile as she helps on library staff and sings in Young People’s Choir. IBM school is her next goal. Athletics agree with her: she likes bowling, skating, football, and basketball. Subjects? English, typing, bookkeeping. IGDALIA ZAYAS “Dalia’s favorite saying is, “Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.' She enjoys classical music. Her favorite disc is “Blue Danube,” by Johann Strauss.
