Saxon Supremacy Saxon Supremacy wasn't just a slogan for the Junior Varsity football team. Coaches Terry Haugen and Terry Fischer led the Saxons to nine consecutive victories and the league championshi- p. Attaining the number one spot in the league wasn't easy, it took a special type of team. ln the words of Coach Fischer, defensively, we were able to adjust to meet whatever challenge the offense gave us, offensively we were well balanced between running and passing. Another quality that helped the team was the fact that they never gave up. In six of the nine games the team came from behind to win. That shows a lot of character, said Coach Haugen. There were many outstanding personal accomplishments along with the accomplishmenrs of the team as a whole. Quarterback isn't just a slogan Aaron Thomas had a total of 1,019 yards passing with ten touchdown passes. One of Aoron's favorite receivers, Jon Dallantyne, topped the statistics on yards per catch with a 19.36 yard average. Greg Gossack was the leading rusher with 650 yards and an average of 8,26 yards per carry. The total offense for the season was 2,718 yards. Nat Goforth was singled out by his team mates as most inspirational player of the year. Coach Fischer summed up the spirit ofthe team, its season and the upcoming years when he said, There is o winning tradition here at South, winning can be infectious, once you discover what ir's like to consistently win, you work hard to keep the good feeling.
