Through these doorways pass the students who will some day be the leaders and citizens of our community. These door- ways lead to mental growth, social development, physical matur- ity, spiritual fulfillment, and emotional development. When we open the door to mental growth, we realize that learning is the necessary skill in all communications. Through learning, we achieve stability in our growth, in our development, and in our social and academic proficiency. Mentally we are reaching a plateau of understanding. We are learning wholesome attitudes, achieving social responsibilities, and gaining a more adequate store of knowledge and interest. Therefore, the goal of our faculty is to instill a desire to mature mentally. This stepping stone to higher education applies to the sophomores as they enter South, the juniors as they contin- ue through South, and the seniors as they step out into the future.

Most of the responsibility for the efficient functioning of the school rests on his shoulders. Mr. A is known for the droll and witty humor expressed in his daily P.A. announcements. He has a Traditional way of expressing approval or dissatisfaction to the students. Roses signi- fy perfection and symbolize his expression of approval of student achievements and honors. Dandelions, on the other hand, indicate inadequacy and express his dissatis- , --df. sux - dministrator- faction of student conduct and lack of achievement. Mr. Brown, our congenial vice-principal, gives much of his time to listen to the countless and varied problems of troubled students. Frequently, he is engrossed in counseling seniors interested in training schools or col- leges and in giving aid in applying for scholarships. Mr. Brown is in charge of the school's general curriculum, and in this capacity has increased the number of new aca- demic opportunities for the students of South High.
