The narrative of school life is traditionally begun with the com- mencement exercises of last June. The theme of the Exercises was the Centenary of the Founding of Buffalo. The commencement wiki TIATQT orations were delivered by Elinor VV. Hill and Daniel Vander- meulen. Marvin A. Rapp, the president of the class delivered the valedictory. There were two hundred seventy four in the graduating class, forty-six of whom received diplomas with honor and two hundred sixteen of whom received diplomas with credit . Alice Williamson and Daniel Vandermeulen were tied for first place with marks of 98.4'k and each received a Senior Gold Medal. Daniel Vandermeulen also won the Jesse Ketchum medal. South Park students obtained eleven of the scholarship awards made annually by the University of the State of New York. Each such scholarship entitles the holder to one hundred dollars a year for the four years of his or her college course at any approved college in New York State. Forty scholarships are alloted to Erie County, of which twenty-five were won by Buffalo public high school students. Of this number, South Park secured eleven. The winners from South Park High School were: Daniel C. Vandermeulen, Alice Ann VVilliamson, Russell Nlowry, Howard R. Studd, Betty Ella Wahl, Eunice Margaret Howell, Anna Teresa lVIcKen- zie, Floyd F. Fried, Leo Callaghan, Caroline Pauline Lichtblau, llildred Elizabeth Yavicoli. At the Commencement exercises in June, Doctor Robert T. Bapst bade a fond farewell to South Park High School before taking up his duties as Associate Super- intendent of Education in charge of Secondary Schools. Dr. Bapst organized the schooland for eighteen years had guided the destinies of this institurlon. Through his untiring efforts and enthusiastic zeal, he had placed it in the forefront among the secondary schools of the State. All South Parkers join in wishing him success and happiness in his new field and they are pleased to know that he will still be able to keep a fatherly eye on Old South Park . Mr. Frank P. Regan, former assistant principal, was appointed principal to succeed Dr. Bapst, and Mr. F. N. McCarthy, former Head of the Nlathematics Department took over the duties of lVIr. Regan. The school year 1932-33 opened September 6, 1932 with an increase in regis- tration of 481, the total registration being 2789. Four hundred freshman students llll
