There I was, walking into a room of pure chaos. It was my freshman year and I got accepted into yearbook. I was really excited, but things weren't as easy as everyone thinks. There was so much work involved I was glad I was a freshman with no major responsibilities. I did, however, have to hear all the demands coming from the Editor, Kat Teeling. The first year was mostly learning the basics so I could make important contributions to future books. As a sophomore I was so anxious to begin working toward a new, better and improved 1978 Southerner. I had fun working with the Ed'Z OB Estrada, he showed me many things about what the editor's job involved. We came on weekends to meet our deadlines - some of those weekends were headaches, and many linger as good memories. The ruler ofthe 79 Southerner was Editor'1 Barbara Abril. She had lots-o-smarts, and I felt I could help her more with almost two years of experience. As I trained under Barbara to be editor for the SO book, I learned more about how complicated yearbook organization can be, and I was ready to crack up. Before I realized it, my turn came to pay my last dues to yearbook as editor. The work never gets easier, the only difference is that you have three years experience and know the steps. We have worked hard this year, five class hours every school week, and three hours every weekend, since the end of September. This is the only way we are able to meet our deadlines. We hope you appreciate all the work that's been done. It has been a good year. We think this book shows improvement over the last few years. Editor and Asst. Editor are important positions, but the Staff does the bulk of the work. I would, however, like to thank my Assistant Editor, Al Orta, for the many hours of time and hard work he contributed to the color section and to graphic design in general. He also served as Sports Editor which requires considerable patience. Responsibilities for other major sections of the book were as follows: Teachers, Sharon Williams, Classes, Vicki Pride, Clubs, Renee Pacicg Honors, Michelle Reichert: Ads, Jennifer Dennis, and Photography, Ronnie Serio. All these people deserve special recognition for design efforts in these sections. Lisa Evans will be the Editor for 81'1 and she will be assisted by Beth Murphy. Lisa and Beth helped with many different sections of this book, and I think they will put together a good book for you next year. All I can say is, Have Fun! It is appreciated by the staff when various campus teachers give their time or materials to aid us in preparing pages. I would like to thank Mr. Hurley for the use of his darkroom and tolerance of several zany yearbook photographers descending on him different hours of any day. Ms. Crane was also very helpful in providing negatives for use in printing some of the sport pages. There's one other person I feel deserves special recognition. Our sponser, and my friend, A. Charlie Fritsche, Jr. He has helped the yearbook through a big debt, which few really realized. Originally having no experience in journalism, he has done a heck of a lot for the past three books as well as this year's. Not many teachers are willing to give up their weekends after having run ransom yearbook errands off school time during the week. He's crazy and a great person to deal with. Editor 3!19!80, Xochitl M. Calderon tPebblesl Well, this is the end. Love, Laughter, and Luck to all! Ain't no stoppin us no X169
