Social Science Guided future leaders of democracy While studying the past and its effect on the present, social studies students prepared for the future. United States history, a required course for juniors, gave Colonels a background of the country in which they live. In government classes, students learned to be responsible citizens and to realize future civic duties. World history and international relations familiarized students with backgrounds and governments of foreign countries. The objective of the social studies department was to provide students with a knowledge of their country's freedoms so that they were able to enjoy their rights and privileges to the fullest extent.
