BOARD OF EDUCATION President Harry O. Lytle, Jr. and Superintendent of Schools Lawrence H. Shepoiser, took a few minutes out of their crowded schedules to pose for the photographer before attending a board meeting. Davis, .ns .amp ptwgitiiigkiitieggwfd Strived to promote educotionol opportunities Cooperation and assistance from the Board of Education was of utmost importance in the accomplishments of South High. The twelve members made wise decisions concerning school policies and problems under the guidance of Superintendent Lawrence Shepoiser. The key personality in success of the l965- l966 school year was Dr. Ralph A. Pyles. A man of intellect, leadership, and understanding, Dr. Pyles was respected by both the faculty and the student body. ln all that he did, whether it was counseling with students, or meeting with administrators, he did with vigor and omniscience. Each student that came in con- tact with Dr. Pyles never forgot his warm personality and personal interest. lt was com- mon to see him extend his hand in an informal greeting to students each morning. Because of his sincere interest in each student, no one left South without being warmly affected by Dr. Pyles. Dr. Pyles received his AB. from Friends lfniversity, NI.A. from the University of Missouri, and Ed.D. from Colorado State College. Patrick H. This was the job of vice- principal Harold Stiles, and assistant principal Henry Claassen. Working together with prin- cipal, Dr. Ralph Pyles, their service to the school and student body was indispensable. Mr. Claassen assumed all responsibilities concern- ing school activities and club sponsorship. Mr. Stiles was in charge of class scheduling and ordering text books. Their interest did not stop with these immediate requirements. They were often seen at football games, school dances, and other extra curricular activities. Their interest in South High was personal as Well as occupa- tional. Harold Stiles, Wichita State University, HA., M.li.: Vivo Principal. Henry Claassen, Bethel Collc-gc, BA.. Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia, M.S.: Assistant l'rinc'ipal. it OPENING THE school day, Mr. Claassen and Mr. Stiles gave the daily announcements which was one of their many duties.
