Over 1800 people attended the performances the four evenings they were held on Dec. 5,6,7 and 8. This was the highest attendance ever at a performance in recent years. There were also previews for English classes and a matinee for the three area lunior High's. Hello, Dolly! is the story of Dolly Levi, a middle aged widow turned Match- maker, who involves herself with amorous affairs of several comical characters. The musical centers in New York in the 1890's. Hello Dolly is based on The Matchmaker by Thorton Wilder. The plot revolves around Dolly's effort to marry Horace Vandegelder, a skinflint millionare. Cornelius Hackle and Barnaby Tucker, Mr. Vandegelder's store keepers are also heavily in the action. lohn Kanter, this years orchestra director said that out of all the musical's he has helped with, Hello Dolly was indeed the best he has ever seen. There was over 70 students involved in the show, cast, crew and orchestra. Terry Hanson said that in his directing experiences, he had Never experienced better cooperation and participation by the South students. Student Union Does Good Job ln 1979-80 The Student Union had many active people in this years union activities, with about 125 students attending every meeting. There were many activities such as the Homecoming, Holiday, and Snowdaze dances that were planned and spon- sored by the union, plus the selling ot buttons tor both Homecoming and Snowdaze. The union not only did things for the school, but did many service proiects for the community, such as collecting money for a rockathon for senior citizens, who could not get out and do it tor themselves. The Student Union was one of the major factors in helping to bring up school morale and involvement. l i l in me
