19 • SOUTHERNAIRE • 37 A Salute to Sports ONK minute to play! A winning touchdown is made! The masses of people in the stands become a voice that shouts with the exultation of victory! Who has not experienced this feeling of delight—along with the feeling of pride that com:s when our band, arrayed in the black and orange, marches on the gridiron led by the strutting drum majors? Emotion very similar is also felt when, in the last quarter of a close basketball game, one of our players, always on the alert, intercepts a pass intended for our opponents and makes a basket that deeidcs the game. Baseball also offers its breath-taking moments when the bases arc loaded, the team has two outs, and the outcome depends upon the next batter. Because the rules of this game are easily understood, baseball is very popular. These athletic games help very much to strengthen the school spirit of the student body besides being the most entertaining function supplied by the pupils themselves. Girls Gvm Leaders Club GL. C. commonly known as the Gym Leaders Club is an organization to which • every girl with an average of 85% or above in her studies and recommended by at least three teachers is eligible for membership.
