CLASS H ISTORY BY EDNA CANNON It was the year September l958, when our class entered the Corridors of the South Girard High School, filled with excitement, we began those wonderful High School Days. As we entered the corridors we were filled with anxiety with the challenges that confronted us. Our class became the largest Freshman Class ever to enter the corridors of South Girard High School, because of the many students being transferred from the Phenix City Elementary 84 Junior High School. Under the careful guidance of Mr. J. S. Abron, Mrs. J. Rowell, Mrs. A. C. Posey and Mr, E. Bailes, we were soon able to overcome our fears with much ease. Most of us became active members in the various Campus activities. Frank Bellamy, William Daniels, Tom Harris, Larry Miles, Johnny Hill, Leroy Pearson, Joseph Austin, James Adams, and Leroy Carter repre- sented us in basketball. Frank Bellamy, Albert Lee and James Jenkins began their career in football. Daisy Benton and Erma Sellers became members of the cheering squad, Some of us became interested in music and joined the band, These music lovers were Lucile Morris, Louise Madden, Bessie Allen, Geraldine Chambers, Helen Black, Gloria Ezekiel, James Feagins, Harry Cox, James Jones, Austin Sumbry, Charles Comer, and Willie Wright. At the close of our Freshman year we lived with much eagerness to return to school in September. At the beginning of the next year, we became Sophomores. Williams, Bobbie Williams, Bessie Allen and Geraldine Chambers became News Commentators. Bobbie Williams and Carrie Stafford became high stepping Majorettes: Winston Goggins Drum Major.
