CLASS MOTTO Out of school life into life's school CLASS COLOR Red and White CLASS FLOWER Red Carnation CLASS HISTORY of 1958 By JULIA CHAMBERS AND MARGARINE HENRY September 8, l954, the smiling faces of teachers and the happy students began strolling down the corridors of success once again, with the only thought in mind, a prosperous and successful school term. At that time there appeared in the doorway several students discussing their summer vacation. These students were to become the class of l958. During our freshman year our class had to be divided into two sections. Our homeroom teachers were: Mrs. H. M. Richmond and Mrs. l. S. Lightfoot, who were very helpful and al- ways willing to help their students with any problem. There were 69 students enrolled. -lhirty-five in section one and thirty-four in section two. Our freshman year was quite con- fusing and complicated because we had to get adjusted to new rules and standards. The following year we became sophomores and we had begun to feel more at home. We were more than happy to have our same hard working homeroom teachers. We were also happy to welcome the smiling faces of such new students as :Laura Coar, James Broad- nax, Eunice Davis, Rosa Jackson, Mary Flakes, Dorothy Wilson, Joan Sneed, Christine Flem- ing, Jonathan Ealy, Albert Floyd, Erskine Stroud, Lonnie Henderson and Arthur Thompson. Our new students became good friends to every one and felt right at home because of the friendly and pleasant atmosphere with which we greeted them. Next year we became juniors, and by this time we were well accustomed to our wonder- ful environment. Both sections of the class welcomed new homeroom teachers, who were Mrs. J. Rowells and Mrs. R. Y. Lewis. We again welcomed new students. They were: Alberta Davis, Mary Jo Wilson, Fannie Tolbert, Josie Freeman, and James Upshaw. We also welcomed three veterans. They are James Barnes, who became very outstanding and whom we found to be a very versatile person. K. C. Kixon tShortyJ, and Willie Evans. Every Junior's, head was in a claud, dreaming of the day we would give our Junior-Senior prom. The prom was really an occasion to remember. The prom was held in the beautifully decorated school auditorium. Our class colors were, Red and White. Our Motto, Out of school life into life's school. Our Theme was, Love's Shop. Spot River's band furnished music for the prom. A special song, True Love, was played for the Juniors and I Love You Truly was played for the Seniors. We were indeed happy to welcome a new instructor, Mr. C. Bibb, our history instructor. We found Mr. Bibb to be a hardworking instructor, who helped in every way he could. This year was exciting and filled with many pleasant memories for every Junior, Now we come to the fourth and final year of our high school career. We were named Calm, Cool, and Collective Seniors. With this epithet, we began to buckle down and become serious about the tasks we had to perform. There were fifty-four students enrolled. A com- bination of twenty-eight girls and twenty-six boys. We were more than happy to have as our homeroom teacher, the dynamic Mrs. R. Y. Lewis. The organization 'of our senior class was very notable, the following officers were elected: Ulysses Brown, President, James Barnes, Vice President, Margarine Henry, Recording Secretary, Gloria Boodie, Financial Secretary, Rosella Alexander, Corresponding Secretary, Walta Mae Hall, Treasurer, Amy Phillips and John Thomas, Sgts.-at-Arms, and Louise Walker, Business Manager. During our senior year we were honored to be the first senior class to enjoy quite a number of new additions to our school. We were the first senior class to conquer the epithet Miss Blue Streak by popularity vote. This was the first year our queen was elected by this method. Our contest was the popular Miss Margarine Henry, who was victorious in winning this title. Our queen was honored to participate in many of the city's finest parades: The Tuske- gee-Morehouse parade, The Fort Valley-Morris Brown, of which she was a contestant and won third place, Spencer's homecoming parade, and of course, .our own homecoming parade. We were the first class to introduce a course in written and spoken French to our school. An assembly program was given, entitled Un jour De Paris CA day in Parisi, which was very interesting and enjoyable to everyone .Our guest speaker was the distinguishd Lt. Col. Albert Merglen of Paris, France, who spoke to us on the customs and activities of the French people. This effort was made possible through the resourcefulness of our ever hard-working Mr. Bibb. Our school, as well as our class was more than proud to enjoy for the first year, our own school band. Through the time, effort and ingenuity of Mr. L. Smith, our band proved to be very successful. As the saying goes, One good thing leads to another. Our band led to the offspring of another band, a Jazz Band, Lamar Smith and His Sheiks. We were very happy to have two seniors who were so outstanding to maintain their positions, although this privilege was forbidden for seniors. They were: Julia Chambers, of our fine cheerleaders squad, and Martha Gosha, our leading majorette. We were very proud of our fine football team that maintained a perfect record throughout the season. Our class was the first to obtain a former graduate as our Baccalaureate speaker, in the person of Rev, lsiah Harvey. Conclusively, our senior year was the most exciting and memorable throughout our entire school career. ln our final analysis, the class of l958 was the most sophisticated and outstanding class of all times, they were just the most.
