CLASS COLORS Pink and Lavender CLASS MOTTO Success ls The Treasure We Are Searching For CLASS7 FLOWER Pink Carnation CLASS HISTORY of 1957 BY M. MERCER, T. J. Cl.lATT, AND A. HARRIS September 8, l957, the smiling faces of teachers, and the happy students began stroll- ing down the corridors of success again, with one thing in mind, a prosperous school term. At that time in the door appeared several students discussing their vacation.,These students became the class of l957. During our Freshman year our homeroom teacher was Mrs. H. M. Richmond, who was very gentle and refined. There were fifty students enrolled. The students who continued throughout our senior year are as follows: V Margie Mercer, Velma Dixon, Dorothy Henry, Tommie J. Cliatt, Milburn Kimber, Jim- mie M. Chambers, Osie Thomas, Virginia Jacskon, Carrie Ezekiel, Mary A. Brown, Alene Harris, John Ford, Mytris Austin, Katie Sanks, Mary Jakes, Otis Morgan, and Olin Morris. The following year we became Sophomores. Our homeroom teacher was Mrs. M. Gallo- way. We were more than pleased to welcome such students as: Lincoln Cochran, Ronella Thomas, Seletha Blackman, Eunice Jones, Barbara Thomas, and Louise Henry. Next year we became Juniors. We were happy to have our dynamic teacher, Mrs. Gallo- way to follow us. There were sixty students enrolled. We welcomed such students as: John Sutton, David Pitts, Wilburn Evans, and Zack Stephens, Then we organied our class club. The officers were: John Ford, President, Jimmie Jenkins, Vice President, Margie Mercer, Secretary, Tommie J. Cliatt, Asst. Secretary, Otis Morgan, Treasurer. This year was one of the most exciting years, because we were looking forward to the Junior-Senior Prom. Our class colors were Lavender and Rose, our Motto was, Success, our Theme was, ' lf Music Be the Feast, Play On. The prom was held in the school audi- torium, featuring Spot Rivers Band. A special song, Stardust was played for the Juniors and A Tear Fell, for the Seniors. Also during our Junior year we were victorious in de- feating the other classes in winning the title, Miss Blue Streak. Miss Eunice Jones was our contestant. Also during this year several members of the class impersonated our faculty members on chapter program. lt was a very intelligent and comical act. Now we come to the fourth and final historical part of our high school career. We were named Sophisticated Seniors. With this epithet, we became more outstanding and serious about our tasks we had to perform. There were thirty-two studnts enrolled. A combination of eighteen girls and fourteen boys. We welcomed the following veterans to our class: Lawrence Davis, Arthur Butler, Rafferd Gibson, Willie Fluelle, and Robert Logan. The organization of the Senior Class was remarkable, the following officers were elected: John Ford, President, Osie Thomas, Vice President, Dorothy Henry, Recording Secretary, Margie Mercer, Corresponding Secretary, Ronella Thomas, Financila Secretary, David Pitt and Mary Brown, Treasurers, and Willie Fluellen, Mashal. Again we conquered the epithet, Miss Blue Streak. Our contestant was Miss beautiful Velma Dixon. She rode in one of the most sparkling convertables, a l956 Pontiac. Students who continued throughout our Senior year are as follows: Margie Mercer, Dor- othy Henry, Carrie Ezekiel, Alene Harris, Milburn Kimber, Jimmie Chambers, Osie Thomas, Virginia Jackson, Jimmie Jenkins, Velma Dixon, 'Tommie Cliatt, Mary Brown, John Ford, Myrtis Austin, Katie Sanks, Mary Jakes, Otis Morgan, and Olin Morris. We were fortunate to have one of our beloved Senior Class members, John Ford as a news commentator to broadcast every Saturday over Station WCLS in Columbus, Georgia at ll:3O A. M. During our senior year, we were also prosperous in winning the second place in Miss Peach Blossom contest. Miss Eunice Jones was our distinguished contestant. ln our final decision the class of l957 is the most sparkling and remarkable class of all times.
