CLASS HISTORY IANUARY 53 The brg day for most students 1S thelr f1rst day at South Gate Hrgh Cur b1g day was rn February 1950 and we saw and learned a lot of new thrngs even on that f1rst day We met our homeroom teachers who gurded and helped us Wrth our pro grams unt1l graduatron Mrss Chlles Mrss I-1ard1ck Mrs M11ls In our Sen1or year Mr B1rnbaum was to become our sponsor but our b1g day came before h1s arr1val We soon met our other teachers and found that they were also frrendly and helpful 1n many ways And so we qu1ckly settled down to the routme of classroom 1earn1ng and extra curr1cular act1v1t1es the basrc learnmgs and soc1al growth whlch made up our hlgh school years As Senrors frnally the frrst thlng we d1d was to elect offrcers ln our Sen1or Bee semester Dell DeRevere was pres1dent Carmen Rottrno was v1ce pres1dent Doro- Popoff was treasurer And rn our Sen1or Aye term we had Bob Iones as pres1dent Ronald Melsha as v1ce pres1dent Carmen Rottrno as secretary and M1chael Popoff as treasurer A11 Sen1ors enloyed two Sen1or Recog n1t1on days the tradttronal fun fllled af ternoon at the Park when the Sen1or Bees recelve thelr Sen1or sweaters Hlghllght of our Sen1or Bee semester however was the Sen1or Prom held on Saturday Iune 7 wrth Hal Neely and a Chrnese Garden theme The W1nter Class always co spon sors the Sen1or Prom of the Iune before 1ts graduatron and we also scheduled Ct Sen1or Ball at the school Parents admmtstrators and teachers were guests at our Sen1or Tea November 17 We began to realtze that graduatron was commg nearer Trme was rushlng now On December 6 we awoke brrght and early to come to the Sen1or Breakfast and the ceremonres of present ng a tree and plaque to the school lerry Anderson ASB V1cePres1dent and Carmen Rottrno Class Secretary were crowned Sen1or Krng and Queen at our Sen1or Ball held on Ianuary 17 Then came the Award Assembly wlth ASB Presldent Neal Edwards d1rect1ng a South Gate assembly for the last trrne be fore turnrng over h1s offlce The B nat B nth Award g1ven each semester to the out standmg boy and g1r1 of each graduat1ng class went to Iohn Reseck and Carmen Rottmo The 2030 Club scholarsh1p was presented to Fred Betz and recognrtlon and honor went to our Epheblans and Seal bearers Pres1dent Bob Iones Bonn1e Myers and Iohn Reseck were named Epheblans and we were pleased to have 13 Sealbear ers 1n such a small class She1la Chr1sten sen Bob Iones Carol Ltndqulst Roy Moore Ph11Mu1lard I L Roberts R1chard Ander Patterson Don Romeo Carolyn Volkoff and Edna W1l11ams Among class athletes who were hon ored too were many students of whom to be proud 1nclud1ng Bob Iones Ron Wal dron Roy Moore R1chard Anderson Ierry Anderson Iohn Reseck B111 Spence Ronald Melsha lack Lehberg Claud Arndt I L Roberts Don Romeo and Ronald Kealey And so the frnal chapter of our class closed as 122 of us proudly but sadly marched through Baccalaureate on Sun day Ianuary 25 and Graduatron Ianuary 30 Rlchard Clark lntroduced our gradua t1on speakers She1la Brovelelt Don Romeo loan l-lennekam and Ann Patterson Dr Ioyner presented the cherrshed drplomas and we became alumm w1th thanks to the students faculty admrnrstrators Class Sponsor Lou B1rnbaum and Grade Coun selor B111 I-lopklns for three wonderful years full of memor1es we shall never forget I f I I , . . 0 I I I I .
