Row 4: Darlene Hecker, Gloria Charles, eJanne Dymus, 'Florence Johnson, Corinne Cormier, Helen McElmeIl, Madeline Walker, Pat Bloomciuist. 12TH GRADE TRI-Y , , The 12th Grade Tri-Y has a two-fold purpose: that of doing service to the school and of working with the Y.W.C.A. These girls gave a Christmas party for invalids at Rancho Los Amigos, collected books for wounded veterans, and gave the first successful dance of the year. The winter officers were Jane DeVries, president: Ruth Brown, secretary: and Patsy Steele, treasurer: while summer officers were Pat Donnelly, presl- dent: Trionne Marlow, vice president: Joan Hansen, secretary: and Frances Jacobsen, treasurer. HI-Y DUKES Bottom Row: Roy Hardison, Don Guynn, Jim Hinerman, Paul Griffin, Bill Braun, Perry Paul, Dick Blakemore, Neal Clark. Row 2: Ray Traylor, Jim Smith, Kenneth Noernberg, Jerry Miller, Everett Faulkner, Bob Robinson, George Posth. Row 3: John Jones, Don Benson, Craig Lillywhite, Fred Coleman, Bob Bray, Eddie Lopez. HI-Y DUKES Hi-Y Dukes started their activities this year by printing and dis- tributing to all classrooms the placards so familiar to everyone, with a new motto each week. The cleanup drive put into effect by the Dukes became famous and really got results. Staying after school for half the time necessary for the custodians to clean up the campus didn't aDDeal to the students, and the drive really helped South Gate's school grounds to look good. Noon movies, cartoons and short subjects presented by the Dukes helped finance the purchase of a loud speaker system for the campus. The Hi-Y Garden Ball, held May 16, was one of the most elaborate dances of the year, its profits also going toward the loud speaker. Co-eds and Pep i s l The Co-Eds, under the leadership of Miss Bea Acrea, arise from the Home Economics Department. This club is made up of girls who are interested in some phase of home life, and have banned together to plan their activities accordingly. The members of the Co-Eds have sponsored two dances this semester, a motion picture and a tea for the mothers. ' 4: Evelyn Nelson, Joan Matheson, Grace Pope, Edie Jenson, Berta Fox, Ann l On. Two initiation parties and a picnic at Griffith Park also provided fun for the members. Knowlege was gained for their future occupations by attending The National Future Home and Makers of America con- ventions. Officers of the club are, president, Barbara Warnock: vice- president, Beverly Horneyg secretary, Barbara Bradack, and treasurer, Angelina Rottino. PEP CLUB I A The Pep Club's name suggests its main purpose, creating pep for school activities. lt is the only organized rooting section at the athletic affairs. During the fall semester, the Qlfls 301 as 3 Clean'UD committee on the grounds at noon. Other activities include a tea honoring the seniors, initiation party, football dance and the Pep Club Prance. For, the fall semester Dot Noonan was elected president, with Pat Hellwlg vice-president: Frances Blevins, secretaryg and Ann Dillon, historian. officers for the sp,-5,-,Q farm were, president, Joan Bradley: vice-president. Grace Pope: secretary, Frances Horton, and treasurer, Ida Mae Finnegan.

Hi Y RAMS The Hi Y Rams are the eleventh grade branch of the South Gate Hi Y organization. During the last semester the group took part in many service projects, and sponsored a motion picture shown to the entire student body. After a gala initiation the boys purchased identical T shirts bearing the name and emblem of the group. Bob McDonald is president of the club, with Richard Witt, vice-president: Alan Scott, secretary, and Ernie Alatore, sergeant-at-arms. During tue past year this club has been very HOW' in school service. its members have assisted in the school cafeteria, malt SMP' and have served as monitors in the corridors. The international unit of sefVlU' is handled through the Y.W.C.A., with representatives from this and Om Tri-Y clubs to the inter-council meetings at the Y.W.C.A. headquarters. with Service as the watchword and Mrs. Sadye Z. lngels as the club SUOHSOF. vffwtfl were, president, Joan Cave, v-president, Barbara Burdg: secretary, Joy Mall' Williams, and treasurer, Earlene Dunn.
