SOUTH CAROLINA still managed some holiday cheer by holding a Christmas Celebration Service on Christmas Eve. Organized by Chaplain LT Darryl Person, the Gala event featured singing by the newly organized SOUTH CAROLINA Tabernacle Choir. Scripture read- ings. and special music by an array ofsliips musicians. After the event, Christmas refreshments were served on the mess decks. An assortment of freshly baked Christmas cookies were provided by the cooks of Supply Department. As the crew ehowed down on the refreshments, they were able to view the exquisite ginger bread village created by MS2 James Taylor. Membership is lor crew members who complete 37 leagues t I I I milesi ol' physical fitness activity during the deployment. A league is 3 tniles ol' running or an equivalent atnount ol' time spent on exercises equipment. The crew can utilize the main deck where 5 laps is a mile or the new aerobic gym where there are lilecyeles. rowing machines. and aerobic steppers. Sailors update their distance covered daily on tally sheets which are then summarized the next day so crew members can follow their progress. Upon tio completion ol' 37 leagues. each member w ill get a 'I'-Shirt with special design signifying his accomplishment. Crew participa- tion is very strong with nearly' 200 members out ol a crew ol' 550. PCO SVU Brunner was the first crew member to complete 37 leagues. BT
