Qxgfd i Editor: Damien Abplanalp Layout: Don Schaefferkoetter Damien Abplanalp Cover: Tom Crawford BEGINNINGS On July 7, 1976, three days following the bicenten- nial celebration of the United States of America, the USS SOUTH CAROLINA, a nuclear powered guided missile cruiser, embarked on its first Mediterranean voyage. For many this was their first, for many their last. Those who made it surely came to know themselves with endless hours of wat- ches, responsibility, and field day. Introversion becomes a man's only solitude, knowing, hoping, and praying the ones he loves loved him still upon his return. Those who didn't return with the ship deserve no less attention. Many were discharged, many transferred and some just went home. What was to come is always unknown but to the men within this cover, today it began. -1 if As the time has come to part, we leave with tears in our eyes and pain in our hearts. t 'W M..-W ,H ,t I X TL it if ,k if-fa X 1 is l M . f.,.A ll' A : wx- E P. .sw rf ,A ' mlm Shaking und sexy fox I put it out by myself , W, 1 Q uQ',L 4. .
