THIS IS SONOMA HIGH Smaller structures snuggling up to the main brown building which looks out over towering trees and spreading lawns. People-pouring out of late busses . . . Stragglers--hurrying home from town . . . Drivers-hoping to find that last-minute parking place. The gay laughter seeping through the halls. Talk of the activities of the past and future. Locker doors slamming wildly as students hustle to and from class. Students-once finding their class, fight that never-ending battle with lost sleep. On a winter morning the gym-cold as an icebox, with icicles dripping from the showers. The mad scramble of traffip as the noon bell rings-a sign apparently mean- ing head for Vella's the Do-Nut Kitchen, the Matador, or favorite campus spot. Returning from lunch, students, with full stomachs, books in hand, nothing in mind, rush to avoid those ever-present tardies. And Fridays, beautiful, wonderful Fridays. Through the halls, smiling faces, happy faces. Excitement rising through each period of the day, and finally 7th period, voices heard yelling in competition . . . the skit with its nervous participants-the results of the competition and the excited class. Yes, this is Friday! The hush of the crowd before the kick-off, the friendly shouts and chorus in the warm basketball gym, the wisp of dust that curls across the diamond when the pitcher toes the rubber, and the roar of the crowd when a Dragon, thinclad, rounds the far turn into the home stretch and races for the tape. Yes, the song leaders, yell-leaders, majorettes, band, and drill team are the fun and color that help make up the kaleidoscope that is our school. The spirit, the sameness, the feeling of belonging assist in preparing us for the future. Long after the school day ends, remain the ghosts of the students--the sad and happy incidents of the day return to the outside world. The world that passes by while we are enclosed in a shell of learning. This is Sonoma High.
