FIRST ROW: Londe, Leonard, Saunders, Dunham, Bryer. SECOND ROW: Mr. Seitz, Monteith, lndelicato, Iones, Siegel, Feldman, Kodner. gin Bah! The 1953 Soldan-Blewett gymnastic team had a tough job on its hands, trying to equal the performance of last year's city, state and ln- vitational Champions. But the season opened successfully as the first team, Cejudo-Alva, Indelicato, Iones, Kodner, and Londe easily Won the Invitational meet which Was held De- cember 28, at the North Side Y.M.C.A. The meet saw Londe, who had recovered from last year's injury, successfully defend his all- round title, closely followed by lndelicato, who placed second in the all-round and Iones Eighty who was third - Kodner and Cejudo-Alva also performed creditably, Kodner placing seventh. The team Won the first place trophy followed by Hadley and Sumner. The city meet was next on the schedule and Mr. Seitz's boys were picked to win easily. But with the loss of several regulars the team placed third, the only bright spot being lndeli- cato's win of first place title and Iones' eighth place. The team is now Working out for the Ozark A. A. U. meet and is hoping for better luck. .

SoldanfBlewett, once a power in city athletics, but now only a shadow of its past glory seems to be making a comeback in many of the fields of athletic endeavors. One of the most striking examples is its young and powerful track team which most likely will contend for top honors in city wide competition. l-lugh Wilson and Max Schwartz, returning lettermen, have both shown excellent time in the sprints. Ouarter milers Mullens, Benkelman, and Schaap all seem to be up around their peak in condition and per- HTLC will be adequately taken care of by veterans Mayer, Fitzgerald, Huffman, and l-licks. ln the hurdles Soldan4Blewett is fortunate to be rep' resented by Weber, Kellar, and Bach as they should add many points to the team's record this year. Coach Delfilio deserves a big hand for the diligent work he has performed on be half of the track team. The highlights of this year's competition as usual will be the main event, the field day meet. The purpose of the gym club is to prepare its members for participation on the school's gym- nastic team and to develop its members under the motto, A strong mind in a strong body. ludging from the teams performance in past years, we would say that the club has success- fully realized its goal. The club was originated in l9l3 by Dr. Otto Koenig. Then in 1939, the club's direction was taken over by Mr. Plag and since 1951 has been under the supervision of Mr. Seitz. The members of the club practice many hours on the parallel bars, horizontal bar, side horse, long horse, and rings. The club practices every morning before school and twice a Week after school. Here's hoping the club continues to function successfully in the future years and continues to produce championship gymnastic teams.
