gaifgetgaf With almost all of last year's fine basketball players graduated, Coach Frankenberger had a tough job on his hands when the season started. lt was apparent from the opening of the season that the Tigers would not win too many games, but this did not keep the team from trying. With quite a few lower term boys on the squad, Coach Frank had to sacrifice the use of sen- A.- 1 1 Q . v a one game, that a league game with Central, 65-41. The team lost quite a few close games which Coach l'Frank could have won had he decided to use seniors Andrews and injured Williams, but he wisely chose to give the soph- omore team as much experience as possible. With flashes of brilliance from Carafiol, Fisher, and Stein, indications are that the team should make a good showing next year. FIRST ROW: Funkhauser, Stein, E., Andrew, Bowen, Carafiol, Goldberg. SECOND ROVJ: Benkelman, Becker, Williams Fisher, Lohay, Lewis, Stein, I., Yancey, Shelton, Mr. Frankenberger. iors Don Williams, Nate Goldberg, and Captain Marv Andrews, all of whom played very cred- itably when they were in, so that he could give the lower termers needed experience for next year. The starting team composed mostly of sophomores was made up of Fisher, Carafiol, Funkhouser, Stein and Lahay. The team ended the season with a far from an impressive over-all record, winning only Seventy-six Carafiol and Fisher started the season strongly but Stein was more consistent and finished the season in fifth place in the Public High League, which is not bad for a sophomore. So, with the basketball season over, all that we can do now is hope for the best for next year's team: Benkleman, Bowan, Carafiol, Fisher, Funkhouser, Lahay, Lewis, Shelton, Stein, and Yancey.

Cldegdf The l953 Soldan-Blewett baseball team, unlike most of the other schools teams, has quite a few experienced players from last season and the results are already showing. Vilith Mr. Walka's hard work and such players as Mark Herman, Marv Andrews, Don Carafiol, Chuck Lahay, Bill Funkhouser, Ed Stein, Charlie Yancey, Clyde Sells, Dave Grossman, and Cor- nell Bowen, returning from last year's team, the boys should really go places, lf the first few games are any criterion, the team will have an abundance of hitting power and if the pitching is kept up by Herman and Yancey, the team will be very hard to beat. At present the boys are in second place in the public league. We hope the team will con- tinue its fine play and bring us home a trophy by finishing the season on top. FIRST ROW: Yancey, C., Caraliol, Stein, Bowen, Funkhouser, Herman, Shelton, Grossman, Lahay. SECOND ROW Mr, Walka, Ashby, Sells, Andrew, Coffman, Benassi, Waldman, Averbuch, Long, Baker. THIRD ROW: Carnaghi, Eaton Richey, Keathley, Slayden, Rosenbloom, Yancey, F., Hoffman, Knowles, Goldman. Seventy-eight
