ourna iam The Iournalism Class under the sponsorship of Miss Helen C, Koch is one of the English courses offered to students of terms seven and eight who have the required grade average. Its main object is to instill in its members the feeling that they are actually reporters work- ing in a real newspaper office, publishing the school paper, SPOTLIGHT. The Iournalism Class is divided into two groups, the staff members and the cubs. The staff members have had one term of journalism ex- perience, among whose duties is to gather news, write editorials, proof read, type, make headlines, and endeavor to help the cubs with the responsibilities of a newspaper. Near the end of the term, the cubs receive the opportunity to show what newspaper knowl- edge they have gained by putting out their own edition. The course provides valuable training for stu- dents who plan to make journalism their life's work. lt is also an asset for its English training. Miss Helen C. Koch .Sifmfbgkf The Soldan-Blewett newspaper, Spotlight, is the product of the Journalism Class, This news- paper has received a rating of Superior by many universities. Through Spotlight, the Iournalism Class en' deavors to cover as many social and academic phases of school life as possible. lt helps Freshman and new students from other schools to become acquainted with the prominent ac- tivities of their new school. The paper, itself, resembles the average news paper. Like the standard paper, Spotlight in, cludes editorials, humor, sports, and news arti' cles of interest to students.
