0l'lCeI f GLASS BANDS HOT MUSIV GJICQ OPCA25 tl Cl, Fifty four The Concert Band appears, really, in a double capacity-as a concert unit, and oftimes as a marching band. It plays everything from Bach to boogie as a stimulus to the old school Splfll Members are selected by audition most of them comlng up to its standards through the medium of the program offered in a prerequi site course Iunior Band About half the players own their instruments the other half uses school owned instruments all getting great satisfaction from converting their breath into harmonious sound The group is managed on an exceptionally democratic basis ffor a musical organizationl most matters of import being settled by a board of control made up of some of its own members This year the bands big pro1ect was that of earning and setting up a fund to provide let ters and other forms of recognition on the basis of the members service to the ensemble The Dance Orchestra concentrates its attention upon the various contemporary styles of name orchestras It boasts as members some of the schools outstanding instrumentalists of considerable background and experience Membership in the group is gained by auditton as its standards include an almost subcon scious ability to read well a new pop tune at sight The members of the organization almost without exception also play in the school con cert band or in the string orchestra The dance orchestra is in demand throughout the school year for social functions and adds a modern note to the instrumental music of tered at our alma mater A large share of its success can be attributed to Alan Rosenblatt its efficient dtrector clarinetist and saxo phonist 1 , . 1 1 it 11 - N 1 . , . . 1 1 1 ' 1 . u 11 , . . . 1 - - - n 11 - 1 I - fs 1 - - I -
