0I'LCOI't gall-J Soldan-Blewett Concert Band membership is attained by entrance examination or by pro- gression irom the Iunior Band through the Intermediate Band. The Board of Education furnishes the large instruments. uniforms, and music. Students furnish the smaller instruments. The Concert Band meets daily in the early A period. It plays tor all football games. many civic parades, and for school auditorium ses- sions and graduations. The Concert band is signally honored by being chosen to play for the Easter Sunrise Service before an audience of ten thousand over a coast to coast hook up. This is an annual service which is held at the Municipal Opera in Forest Park. Members from the Concert Band composed about one fourth of the All City Band selected from all the white High Schools in St. Louis. Members, chosen by the respective Directors, performed at Kiel Auditorium for the Missouri State Teacher's Convention. The All City Band was under the direction of our director, Mr. R. D. Sorrells. 0llCel't OFCLBJ fra The Soldan-Blewett Concert Orchestra is assem- bled lrom the Senior String Group and the Intermediate String Group as well as from the brass, reed. and percussion sections of the Concert Band. These String groups meet daily in a regular period. In order to enter one ot these classes a student must be able to meet the playing requirements set by the instructor. The Senior Orchestra plays tor special occa- sions and plays in the pit for the Operetta. Because of the necessity of spending more time in building string players, since most of them start in the first term as beginners, the regular Senior Orchestra time has become a string rehearsal period. Thus the Senior Orchestra sometimes rehearses in the momings before school in order to pertomi together as a unit. Chris Paganini, a Senior student, is the general manager and assistant director while Mr. R. D. Sorrells is the instructor. mxcmc rr-is Music OFFICERS Secretary and Manager ............ There are three Orchestras and three Bands at Soldan-Blewett High School. All'are under the direction oi a full-time instructor. The School Board furnishes the larger instruments. Most of the beginning students start on these. In the past tew years, very few instrumentalists have come into Soldan-Blewett irom the ele- mentary schools. The Intermediate band is a group of players in about second term experi- ence with an instrument. Most of them will progress next term into the concert band it they pass certain requirements set up by the instructor. By using steel shelved cabinets and folders, there is very little need tor a librarian. How- ever there are two student instructors this last term who have helped a great deal with the sectional work and are to be complimented very highly upon their working standards.
