The Gym Club originated in 1913 under the direction of Dr. Otto M. Koenig. Through the years the club has functioned with great success. Mr. Plag. the present sponsor. has guided the club since 1939. Its purpose is twofold: to develop a sound body and train boys to rep- resent Soldan-Blewett in the various dual gym- nastic meets. Interscholastic Gym Meet, and the A,A.U. Meet. Much work is involved in the training: it re- quires much time and toil. The boys work diligently on the horizontal bars. parallel bars. side horse, and mats. The Girls' Athletic Association, one of the largest clubs in our school, welcomes girls oi all terms who are interested in sports. These girls, according to their respective terms, meet once a week to acquire a better knowledge ot sports and to have cm aitemoon of fun. The girls receive awards for their achievements at a party given at the end oi each term. These awards are determined by a point system. Achievement tests, posture tests, and perfect attendance. are ways in which the girls earn points. Five hundred points are necessary tor a small letter: a thousand points are required tor a large letter. Active members of G. A. A. who have been awarded a large letter the pre- ceding year and who pass a physical exam- ination receive a gold pin. the highest award of G. A. A. During the tall term. the girls engage in a volleyball tournament: in the spring. they par- ticipate in basketball and softball tournaments.
