The Soldan-Blewett Baseball Team was a dark Y W - f horse in this year's Public League race. With A1 Towbin returning to do the main pitching chores. the team figured to roll if its hitting could match the effectiveness of its pitching. However. Towbin started slowly, but improved greatly as the season progressed. The Tigers lost to McBride in their first en- counter 5-2. but avenged that defeat later with cx 13-9 victory. The Bengals started their league play most auspiciously with a 12-11 victory over Hadley. In that game the Tigers scored eight runs in the last of the seventh to pull the game out of the fire. The Tigers followed this with a 6-3 victory over McKinley. Then came their first defeat 10-S to Beaumont. Hopes for a championship tumbled as the Ben- gals lost to Roosevelt. 7-6: Central, 7-0: South- west. 8-2: and Cleveland, 9-5. COACH AND BENCH After this debacle the Tigers reached their peak by defeating the powerhouse Beaumont team 5-3. and trampling McKinley 17-7.
