HE Soldan-Blewett Senior Band member- ship is attained either by an entrance exami- nation or by progressing to it from the Jun- ior Band through the Intermediate Band. The Board of Education furnished the large instruments, uniforms, and music, While the students furnish the smaller instruments. The Concert Band meets daily in the early A period. It plays for all football games, many civic parades, and for school audito- rium sessions. This year the Soldan-Blewett Band was signally honored when it was chosen to per- form for the St. Louis District of the Mis- souri State Teachers Association at the Kiel Auditorium. i HE Soldan-Blevvett Concert Orchestra consists of members who have passed its entrance examination or have met the re- quirements by having been passed from the Intermediate Orchestra into its ranks. It meets daily in a regular period. The Junior and Intermediate Orchestras also meet in regular periods. The Concert Orchestra plays for auditorium sessions and special occasions. It plays for regular school dances given in the band room after school on Friday after- noons. It rehearses as a club after school once a Week. The Dance Orchestra, with the addition of violins and cellos from the Concert Or- chestra, was selected to play the pageant performed before the National Teachers Meeting this spring. It has an unusual rec- for a high school dance orchestra. The dance orchestra is entirely under the direction and supervision of the instrumental instructor, Mr. R. D. Sorrells, who is an ex- perienced director, having been connected With radio, show, and dance Work for many years. He is currently arranger for and a member of our St. Louis Municipal Opera Orchestra.
