F OREWORD Books are shining bridges free. which link us to ourselves to be. This can he expanded further to say that education is the bridge which links us to our achieve- ments and our goals for the future. With this in mind. the 1958 SODUSKAN en- deavors to trace the pattern of education in relation to a bridge. If the bridge is wide enough. one can make the span from childhood to maturity in a progressive manner. But, if there is no foundation or support for the bridge. the transition is difficult. Each phase of education as we learn it from our Alma Mater helps us toward our final goals and dreams. Through intramural and inter-community sports programs, our bodies are disciplined to the rigors of life. Knowledge of sciences, languages, and humanities school us mentally, and strengthen us in that respect. An- other important part of this span is the development of our appreciation of the finer arts through drama groups, musical organizations, and special interest clubs. Physical discipline. mental fitness. and cultural development . . . these are the three needed foundations for our bridge. These are the gifts with which our faculty members at Sodus Central endow each and every student who would learn. With these three tools at hand we can build the smallest bridge to cross a brook or the mightiest span to cross any obstacle life may place in our paths.
