Young Farmers' Clube Motto, We Grow as we Serve. The Young Farmer Club is an organization of boys representing the classes of Vaca- tional Agriculture of the High School. There are thirty members enrolled in the club this year with the following officers: Preridenz ....... ........ E UGENE DATTHYN Adzfimr ,............................ CARL A. Lewis The Young Farmers began their program this year by sending representatives to the State Meeting at the New York State Fair. In addition to the regular delegate meeting and program, the boys took part in the judging Contests and earned several prizes. The Fruit and Potato judging teams won second place at the Palmyra Fair contests and the Fruit team won first place at the Rochester Horticultural Society Meeting. Nine members of the club attended the annual meeting of the Young Farmers at Ithaca, Farm and Home week and took Part in the judging program in Fruit, Poultry, Dairy cattle, Potatoes, and Plant and Insect Identification and Control Contests. The members also attended the annual meeting and the Leadership Training School. The Boys also took charge of the western division of Young Farmers and sponsored the Speaking Contest for that section. Elwood Ball was selected to represent our group and the program was put on at the annual meeting of the Sodus Grange. The Sodus Lads were awarded second place in this contest. In the spring, the boys held two regional meetings at Macedon and joined together with the Wolcott and North Rose Chapters for a Father and Son Banquet at North Rose. The boys have held two outdoor meetings and one rifle shoot this year. They took part in the Basketball and Baseball leagues of the Wayne Monroe Group and the Ellison Park Rally Sports Program. This program included a regional business meeting of Western New York Young Farmers and the Sodus Boys took their share of awards in the contests which included relay races, horseshoe pitching, track, jumping and shot put. The entire club attended the program of the National Dairy Day celebration at the Geneva Experimental Station and delegates from the Club attended the Farm Manage- ment Meeting at Alfred University. Each member is carrying on a program of super- vised practice and are planning for a better program for next year. -wif 26 lse-

4H Club The 4H Club boasts as its motto, Make the Best Better. The club consists of an enterprising group of boys from the junior High school group who hold monthly meet- ings to study farm topics and project work. There are nineteen members in the club represented by the following officers: President, Leo Fletcher, Vice-President, Raymond Cole, Secretary, Charles Burnette, Treasurer, Robert Baker, Reporter, Amiel Vandeveldeg Advisor, C. A. Lewis. The 4H Club members held an exhibit in the fall in the High School at which 4H Club work from all the Clubs in the district was shown. This included handicraft and produce grown by the members in their projects. The Sodus Club earned their share of the prizes and joined in the fall rally achievement meeting at which Mr. Hein Zleman, assistant State 4H Club leader, presided. The boys also took part in the exhibits and 4H Club Program at the Palmyra Fair. In this event, the Sodus boys also proved their ability, earning several prizes. During the year, the boys have practiced knot tying and rope splicing, studied the rules of parliamentary practice and have carried on their meetings in a business like way. They organized a soft ball team with Charles Burnette as manager and have had some exciting games with neighboring 4H Club teams. Each of the members is carrying on a project on his farm during the summer and plans to grow quality products to show at the Fair this fall. He will keep a business-like record of his activities and will gain experience so that he can carry out his motto, Make the Best Better, and develop his projects into a real profitable business. The 4H Club of the school sent delegates to several of the other 4H Club meetings and is trying to develop the spirit of working together in a cooperative way to promote the interests of the club. During the summer the members will form a tour and visit the projects of the other members. They learn by doing and profit by the experience of working together and benefiting by the work of each other. The local Club acted as hosts to the Ontario and Monroe County Club at the County 4H Play Contest and hope they may extend their hospitality and cooperation by sending a delegate to the 4H Club Conference at Ithaca. Horns, trumpets, drums, cornets, trombones!! What a mixture of instruments! Yet, strangely enough, from that jumbled mixture comes a series of sweet, harmonious sounds. We are very proud of this active band which, under the direction of Mr. Glenn Waldorf, has played at fairs, band concerts and contests. CASTELLE DE HULLU Early in the year, September to be exact, the Sodus Band played at the Palmyra Fair. Inasmuch as that gave the school a half-day holiday, we will give three cheers for the band. All the people who were listening did too! During the fall and winter months, the band kept very busy. Every Tuesday afternoon until five ofclock, the band members spent their time preparing for the spring contest, the Finger Lakes Sectional Contest and the summer contests and conventions. The Spring Band Concert, that fabulous glory, was held on the evening of April thirtieth, in the auditorium of the High School. Those who attended the concert were very much impressed with the skill which the band has acquired this year. The Finger Lake Sectional Contest took place in Palmyra on the night of May third. We are pleased to say that some of the members played in the solo parts. Although they didn't win any prizes, we feel that the members of the band represented Sodus High School very favorably. The Band performed again on the evening of May sixth at a Chamber of Commerce banquet given in the school gymnasium. That evening was called Education Night in the Chamber of Commerce calendar and the band played to show the work of one phase of the music department. The Senior Class owes them a vote of thanks for playing so willingly at their Senior Supper which was given in December. The Band has been very successful this year and our only wish to them is that they may be just as successful, and even more so, next year. We are sure that this organiza- tion is very worth while and necessary to the school and we think any member would tell you that he is proud and honored to belong to such a talented group of young people. --'iii 27
