i l e H Handicraft Club Are your nerves steady enough to balance a teacup at a faculty party? The Handicraft girls can accomplish this feat. They proved it at their May tea party when with the Home Economics classes they entertained their mothers and the faculty. Do you know what smores are? The girls made them at their june picnic in Green's Woods. Parties and picnics aren't their only accomplishments, If you want a block-printed luncheon cloth, or favors for a party, or candy for a sale, call on a Handicraft girl and you will be given full details. The girls thought they would never find a name for their club. Names from Turtles to Bus Bees were su vested. And after some time Handicraft was decided uaon. Y 88 1 School spirit? Yes, the club has that. It assisted in making costumes for the operetta Oh, Doctor. How and when were these activities accomplished? By twelve members who gathered around the tables in the Homemaking Room twice a month. These oilicers have guided the club's activities throughout the year: Pwritlwzr ...... ..... j ANIE Lizrricis Vit-e-I're.fidw11. . . .... Onsssa Boisis Serrelary ..... . . .CAROL HARDY Treazmrer .............................. ALICE REED Would you like to know the club's most exciting experience? Trying to make Christ- mas holly with sealing wax over a candle. They'll never forget the feeling of that hot, juicy wax running down their lingers! Without the help of Miss Furman, the faculty advisor, the club would have been un- able to carry out its many accomplishments and they owe all their success to her. The club members all agree that much fun can be obtained from sewing, cooking and entertaining. We can just imagine all the fun they're going to have when they really do sew, cook and entertain in their own home! evil 24 lit- '-

Commercial Club All ready for an accuracy test? 70 space line, double spacing, indent for paragraphs. What does that remind you of? Yes, that's right-Typing class, just one feature of our commercial course. All high school students taking commercial subjects are eligible for membership in this club. The first meeting was held on September 26, with seventeen people enrolled in the Club which was reorganized last year by Miss Stone. The following officers were elected: President ...............,.........,. NORMA EASTLEY Vice-Prefidelll ........................,..... IDA LEE Set'1'elur'y ......., ...,. A NNA TUNLEY Treasurer .......... ..,. A Liciz BURLEE S. O. R6IUl'6.fE1lfdfj1'6 .....,............... BERYL MOTT Scroll Reporter .........,..............,,.. ILA COLE A committee to revise the Constitution was appointed with Ida Lee as chairman. A program committee was also named by the president, consisting of Ida Lee, as chairman, assisted by Beryl Mott, Anna Tunley, Margaret Brown and Alice Burlee. This committee has been very active and responsible for the programs. At one of the meetings freak letters were read by the members who had written them as their fee of admission to the meeting. A prize was given to Rollie Richardson for the best letter. This letter was written to a company, advertising wives for twenty-five dollars. He wanted to buy a lady who was dressed in a green coat and blue hat. A mock auction was held at another meeting. Because of his ability as a salesman, Rollie acted as auctioneer and was so successful in hammering his mallet and yelling Going, Going, Gone, that he disposed of a great number of erasers, books and chalk. The Club discussed the topic, lf I were an Employer, what would I expect of my Em- ployees? After many ideas had been proposed, Miss Stone related some of her pleasant experiences in an office and gave some practical suggestions. After a keen discussion, the members enjoyed a party in the Gymnasium, with supper served in the Home Economics Room. At the May meeting, projects for the school exhibit were presented and worked upon. These projects consisted of a poster with an attractive arrangement of bulletins for com- mercial colleges and business schools, pictures made with shorthand outlines and a story of Mr. Gregg, the founder of shorthand. Can business and a grand time be combined? The Commercial Club will vote YES any day in the week! -. 23

4H Club The 4H Club boasts as its motto, Make the Best Better. The club consists of an enterprising group of boys from the junior High school group who hold monthly meet- ings to study farm topics and project work. There are nineteen members in the club represented by the following officers: President, Leo Fletcher, Vice-President, Raymond Cole, Secretary, Charles Burnette, Treasurer, Robert Baker, Reporter, Amiel Vandeveldeg Advisor, C. A. Lewis. The 4H Club members held an exhibit in the fall in the High School at which 4H Club work from all the Clubs in the district was shown. This included handicraft and produce grown by the members in their projects. The Sodus Club earned their share of the prizes and joined in the fall rally achievement meeting at which Mr. Hein Zleman, assistant State 4H Club leader, presided. The boys also took part in the exhibits and 4H Club Program at the Palmyra Fair. In this event, the Sodus boys also proved their ability, earning several prizes. During the year, the boys have practiced knot tying and rope splicing, studied the rules of parliamentary practice and have carried on their meetings in a business like way. They organized a soft ball team with Charles Burnette as manager and have had some exciting games with neighboring 4H Club teams. Each of the members is carrying on a project on his farm during the summer and plans to grow quality products to show at the Fair this fall. He will keep a business-like record of his activities and will gain experience so that he can carry out his motto, Make the Best Better, and develop his projects into a real profitable business. The 4H Club of the school sent delegates to several of the other 4H Club meetings and is trying to develop the spirit of working together in a cooperative way to promote the interests of the club. During the summer the members will form a tour and visit the projects of the other members. They learn by doing and profit by the experience of working together and benefiting by the work of each other. The local Club acted as hosts to the Ontario and Monroe County Club at the County 4H Play Contest and hope they may extend their hospitality and cooperation by sending a delegate to the 4H Club Conference at Ithaca.
