f wsmmumsm Student Organization A government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Sodus High School's Student Council is based upon, and works in accordance with, this famous principle of democracy that has been characteristic of America since the days of her courageous be- ginning. From every class and every club in the school, one representative is sent to the Student Organization, and it is his business to look after the interests of the group which he represents. In the case of our government, you see, an equal voice in the government is more than an ideal, it's a reality! The student body elects the ollicers of the Council annually. The President presides over Chapel in a most dignified UQ and authoritative manner. The Vice-President reads the announcements, he also looks up the biggest words he can find in the dictionary and stammers over them in his speech. Need we add that Reginald Proseus was president and Curtiss Gaylord, vice-president? George Burnett was secretary and Harold Turner kept the bulging, overflowing treasury in hand. Theres one thing we envy the representatives for, and that's being able to see Reg pound the gavel impressively on the desk to secure order in a S. O. meeting. Rumor has it that Reg rapped on the freshman representatives head by mistake one day, but we should hate to believe such a thing. Each year the organization gives a ticket to the students who pay their dues. This S. O. ticket enables the owner to gain admission to any athletic event at a reduced price. Another phase of the Student Council work is the Safety Patrol program, designed to insure the safety of the children in the lower grades. This year the Council again super- vised the work and appointed high school boys, by a weekly schedule to stand at the intersections at the noon and afternoon dismissals and to see that cars driving by waited until the children had crossed. This program is really worthwhile, and the Student Coun- cil deserves a great deal of credit for its management. Other things which this Student governing body has accomplished during the year are: the planning of the weekly chapel programs, the distribution of awards for sports, music, and the school publications, to be made at the end of the year, the promotion of the cheerleading program, and the organization of a subscription drive for the Soduskan, which helped to raise the total subscriptions over the number set for the desired goal. Could the members of the Student body work together so elhciently and harmoniously as they do without the help of the Student Council? We think not. As long as Sodus High School exists and operates to the advantage of every pupil, the Student Council cannot outlive its usefulness. -tl 17 lse-

Seventh Grade Halloween Parties! Christmas Parties! Valentine Parties! Hikes! Picnics! Wlio does all this? If you go to Sodus High School, you know the answer: the Seventh Grade, of course. Always gathering for a social time! They surely know what fun is, but they know the meaning of activity, as well. Here are a few of the high spots of their calendar for the year: Bobbing for apples and consuming cider and doughnuts at the Halloween partyg Decorating a Christmas tree and playing Santa Claus to each other and to Miss Bonner, the class advisor, at the Christmas partyg and making a Valentine cake for Mr. and Mrs. Rude and delivering it to their home. QMiraculously enough, they ate it and lived to tell the tale.j The class has kept a scrap book of the class events including snapshots of members of the class and clippings from the paper. fIt's too bad we couldn't have some of those snapshots in the Soduskan. That one of ,... J Members of the class were invited to put on, in a grade assembly, a play written by Kathryn Chambers. They did so, and were able to add the performance to their already lengthy list of successful accomplishments. Did you know that the Seventh Grade has some real musicians? The class was proud of the line solo work of Mary Alice Hoste and Vincent Gaudino who were entered in the band contest at Palmyra. The officers for the year have been: Preridenr ............ ..... MARSHALL COLES Members of the Seventh Grade are anticipating a picnic in june which will close the activities of the year and which will mark their advancement into the Eighth Grade. We can picture Shirley Mills with her pigtails, Gertrude La Belle with her yells, and Shirley La Rock with her presiding manner coming back next year with the resolution to have just as much fun as they did in the Seventh Grade. -Q 16 ip..-
