l i at Freshmen The other day when we were walking down the hall, we saw Rita Duncan and Arland Wllite by one of the lockers, squeezing in a few precious seconds of conversation be- tween classes. Of course, we didn't mean to listen, fwe wouldnt do that for anythingj-- but Arland whispered so loud we couldn't help but hear him say, Rita, dear, why is your face so red? And Rita answered, Oli, Arland, I'm just blushing to think how green I've been all year! ln September, the Freshmen were green, indeed, in the eyes of the upper classmen but they have certainly learned the ways of Sodus High School so rapidly, that Rita and Arland may yet steal the honors away from Elnora and Fred. Rossa W1LscJN Miss We-lclm, a new and well-liked teacher, and Mr. Lewis, always the Answer to a Freshman's Prayer, served as class advisors. The Freshmen boys had a soccer and a basketball team. Although neither team was a winner, the boys had fun playing these games. The Freshmen Girls had a basketball team and they took second place. Freshmen, or rather Fresh Girls, aren't so green after all. The boys also had an indoor baseball team which played with the other inter-mural teams. On March twelfth, the Freshmen were initiated by the Sophomores. The President says it was very successful because they enjoyed doing the things set before them. fCould it be true that the Freshmen enjoy being slaves?J When june has rolled nearly all her days off the calendar, the Freshmen expect to cele- brate ending their hrst year with a picnic which has great quantities of food. They will discard their green cloak and put on the mantle of the jolly Sophomores. They certainly have a reason to rejoice. ' Sophomore Class Traditionally, sophomores are in-between peopleeneither lowly frosh nor sophisti- cated upper classmen. But be it modestly said, there is nothing btzlf-may about the class of 1937. It may be in between, but it has a distinct personality of its own. The form of government seemed to be matriarchal, for the offices of the class, with only one exception, were turned over to the fairer sex. Representative for the first part of the year. Upon Don's resignation, Gerald Gallagher was elected to take his place. We understand that Gerald had things pretty much his own way, in spite of being so greatly outnumbered. fWomen sure fall for these guys that croonlj When Dorothy Kraus rose to the rank of a junior in january, Helen Van Heiten was entrusted with the secretaryship. Miss Newton and Mr. Arnott, as advisors, proved to be real friends and supporters of the class. When it came to planning the Initiation program for the freshmen, what Mr. Arnott couldn't think of, Miss Newton could! On November ninth, the sophomores gathered together in the gymnasium for a social night. Comical games were followed by card playing and several kinds of plain and fancy dancing. fMostly fancylj The high point of the year occurred during the week of March twelfth-Initiation Week. Did the freshmen suffer-and did the sophomores love it? For a week before the chapel Get Wise program, all the freshmen had to carry their books in market baskets, to which green bows were attached. They also carried open umbrellas to and from school. The boys looked charming in bracelets and earrings fRemember Bobbie Shaw?j, and the girls very sporty in neckties. Gaining position and prestige is very much like eating Crackerjack- The more you eat, the more you wantf' Having tasted the pleasure of rising to a point where they can look down on the frosh, the sophomores are anticipating their promotion to the rank of juniors where they can have two classes looking up to them. They will be satisfied, they say, if next year proves to be as enjoyable and profitable as this has been. -..ggi Eb..-

Eighth 4 Grade Tempus fugitl The Eighth Grade came to the conclusion that it certainly does fugit, when they looked over the record of events which have taken place during their last year as graders, before they take their place as High School Frosh. Starting off the year with pep and energy. they finished in the same manner, and are all ready to step in next September and run the High School. Because I-Iallowe'en was the first date on which the class could really justify a party, they waited until then, but made up for lost time on that occasion. Witli whom do you suppose the Eighth Grade enjoyed their Halloween Party? None other than the Freshmen. We can just imagine how dignified the Eighth Grade was! Qfior once in its lifelj And when Christmas rolled around, the class held another party. Sometimes the upper classmen wish they were in the grades again so that they could take part in these holiday parties! Of course, our neighboring high schools have heard of the Seventh and Eighth Grade Boys' Basketball Team. How did this happen, you may ask? Well, the team played the grade basketball teams of other schools and they made an illustrious name for themselves. They owe all their success to their manager, Mr. I-Ieise, who is also the class advisor. This spring Mr. Heise also organized a boys' baseball team of the Seventh and Eighth Grades combined. This team met with the same amount of success that the basketball team had. Can you feature an up-and-coming class without its own class song? The Eighth Grade couldn't, so at the beginning of the year a committee consisting of Clyde Turner, jacob Vanderbrook, Betty johnson and Mary jane johnson set to work and composed a very creditable class song. fbefore The classinj The Eighth Grade has a very good reason for wanting the last of june and the end of the school year to come.
