Page 10 text:

During the course of history, the desire for education has depended upon the time, place, and the individual. Every- one who has gained an education has found that many hours of hard work were necessary. There is no short-cut or sub- stitute for hard work in the pursuit of an education. An education gives us many privileges that we would not otherwise have, but it also brings many responsibilities. An education is an expensive necessity in the world of to- ll day. We owe much to the community which furnishes the school, the taxpayer who pays for the school, and the school board that manages the school, but our debt is greatest to our forefathers who gave us the freedom and dignity which all mankind deserves. It is now our responsibility to pre- serve that freedom and form of government by being good citizens of our national, state, and local communities. I believe that an education is necessary for good citizen- ship in a democracy. I believe that our educational in- stitutions, from the smallest one room school to the largest university, help safeguard our freedom. I am thankful for the past with it limitation, the present with its oppor- tunities, and I am hopeful for the future with its unlimited possibilities. Our greatest potential for achieving these opportunities is creative intelligence, controlled by a set of spiritual and moral values. It is the duty of the school to develop this intelligence and this set of values so that the sacrifices of the human race will not have been in vain. Compliments of WARREN LUMBER COMPANY of Snyder
