Those participating in this cere- mony were the members of the graduating class and the junior Class. With the solemn dignity, the officers of the graduating class installed their newly-elected successors. Then followed the most beautiful part of the ceremony. The Senior Queen and her attendants. regal in caps and gowns, bestowed royal honor upon those who were to follow them. At this time, the radiant new Queen was presented the golden sceptre, symbol of her ex- alted office, and began her year-long reign. The investiture ceremony came to a close with the lighting of the candles held by each sen- ior and junior who had been selected for this honor. As taps echoed in the distance, the eyes of many of those who were leaving Smith-Cotton glistened with tears. Thus, on May 25, 1959, lovely Queen Linda and her charming attendants, Miss Judy Kay Gardner and Miss Nancy Young, began their royal reign over the Senior Class of 1960.
