DR. LEONARD S. DUNCAN Dean of I mtruciion To the Class of 1953! Children are precious. They become men and women. They are alive. They will continue to grow and to learn. We dare not push them aside. We dare not neglect their welfare, for they are citizens of this world in which we live. A better world can be made, not through invention of more gadgets, but by improving man's relationships with his fellow men. Teachers and parents have sobering responsibilities. May your life be filled with satisfaction. LEONARD S. DUNCAN II

DR. CLARENCE M. LONG Society has the right to expect the youth of our colleges to become men and Women of character and culture. May your college career give you this develop- ment. JOSEPH A. MCCLYMONDS i ii There is no job in the world more im- portant than a classroom teacher, but when you join the ranks of that worthy group next fall do so with humbleness. Sitting in the classrooms will be our future citizens-presidents, statesmen, minis- ters, teachers, tradesmen and, yes, crim- inals and thieves. Knowledge must be imparted to them. Skills must be devel- oped in them. But above all, through your guidance and direction, there must grow within the heart and soul of every one of them a desire to contribute to the best of his ability to a better America. The task will be great. Approach it with a feeling of responsibility and a de- termination that this great nation WILL be better because even a few of its future citizens were privileged to call you teacher. C. M. LONG JOSEPH A. MCCLYMONDS
