DEDICATION In this small way, we wish to acknowledge the devotion and sacrifice made in our behalf by two people. Our lives have been made richer and fuller by their having lived. On July 3, 1951, Dr. Pierrepont H. Nichols passed away. In the death of Dr. Nichols the College has lost an inspiring teacher, a loyal colleague, and a man whose integrity and warmth of personality gained for him the respect and affection of all who knew him. During his sixteen years of service at Slippery Rock State Teachers College, he gave to his students a wealth of information gleaned from the printed page, enriched by extensive travel both at home and abroad. He will long be remembered by a host of friends and by those students who share his appreciation of the best in literature and in life. Lieutenant Paul Clawson was called to active duty on November 15, 1950. He fell in Korea on May 21, 1951, just a few days before he would have graduated. During his stay at Slippery Rock, Paul was one of the most enthusiastic and well liked people in his class. He was a member of the football team, gym team, and Varsity Club, was vice president of his class when a Junior, and was a member of Student Government, among other activities. Paul was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for the gallantry he so conspicuously displayed fighting for a cause which he believed to be good and just. We shall be forever in his debt. 2
