The big green eleven displayed, throughout the year, the usual fine caliber of hard, clean football for which the Rockets are noted, both defensively and offensively. The Rocket Varsity Squad, built around the many veteran lettermen, opened the season with a 20 to 0 win over the Titans of Westminster as McCollough, Murray, and Fox provided the scoring. On the following Saturday afternoon the Rockets played the Wittenberg College team and defeated the Ohioans by the score of 19 to 0 as the 84 BENDER MURRAY GERDY MOODY big green passing attack proved to be superior. Still on the road the team rolled over Edinboro, 27 to 7, the scoring accomplished mostly through the center of the Red Raider's line. A capacity Homecoming crowd filled Thompson field to watch California hand the Rockets their first defeat of the season as they pushed over an early first (juarter score. This proved to be the winning margin. Indiana came next on Slippery Rock's schedule. Both teams were evenly matched and the game ended in a 6 to 6 tic. The following week the Knights of Gannon defeated the Rockets, hampered by midseason injuries, 15 to 0.
