Vanessa Williams, the first black woman to receive the title of Miss America was forced to resign because of sexually explicit photographs published in Penthouse magazine. As the summer sizzled, so did the baseball season. The San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs battled to the end in the 81st World Series. Chicago became the champs with a two game lead over San Diego.
