J' ' F' R -55-'Q One who takes the lead-this is how Webster defines a principal, and this is how We, the graduating class of 1959, define our principal, Mr. Harold Allison. In his eight years of administrative duty, Mr. Allison has led Sir Francis Drake High School toward achieving higher aca- demic standards, toward attaining good citizenship by its students, and toward becoming a school of which its community is proud. A graduate of Tarnalpais High School, Mr. Allison returned there to teach chemistry and serve as a coun- selor. Mr. Allison was appointed Drake's first assistant vice-principal: he became principal in the spring of 1953. It is to Mr. Allison for his outstand- ing job in leadership that We grate- fully dedicate this book. -Q! N lk RMI if f!-,. 5, '1 i . Deck the halls with any- thing in the art room, should be the slogan oi the Drake art club, Delta Alpha Kappa, an energetic organi- zation which has contributed much to campus spirit. Furthering their practical as well as their esthetic spir- it ot art, the thirty members , participated in field trips, Q ' represented Drake through art exhibits and created Ige Rooney clever Christmas decora- Adviser tions for the office-all un- der the leadership of Mr. loe Rooney. Making publicity posters is one of many art club activities. 99 The newly-formed skin diving club, dubbed the Drake Sharks, began its iirst year of activities under the advisership oi Mr. Norman Goldstein, physiology teach- er. The purpose of the club is to teach safety rules oi skin diving to its members and to promote the opportunity for interested students to learn something about the Norman Goldstein Sporl itself- Adviser Activities included guest speakers at club meetings who discussed skin diving and its eguipment and who showed movies. A strange, very conta- gious disease, Piratitis, is spreading. The members of the Pep Club seem to be the main carriers of the incur- able disease. An over- whelming display of the symptoms such as making posters, selling pom-pons and cheering, were exhib- ited all year by the Pep Club. With a total membership of over lOO coeds, the Pep Club, afflicted with Piratitis, represents a mighty power in school activities. A weird effect of this dis- ease is that it is enjoyed by all its victims, and thanks to the efforts of the Pep Club, it is chronic among most of the student body. +V' .. Cutmanned, but never outtought, the small, 27 man sguad, which was sometimes reduced to 17 due to in- juries, came close to winning on several occasions only to fall by the wayside, largely because of its lack of manpower. Perhaps the brightest portion of the season was the last three games in which the Pirates lost to Santa Rosa, 13-7, on a last quarter splurgeg San Rafael, 39-27, the highest total scored against the Bulldogs all year, and to Redwood, l2-7, when the green machine was vic- timized by the clock. . 3 0 . 2 , o K l Ff'X , .Y Co-Captains: Richard Schwartz, Ronald Averiette.
