VOYAGE Seniors. . .remember. . . our first day at Drake. We were poor little lost freshmen roaming the halls, frightened that we might walk into the wrong class or, much worse, we might not find our own class. the first dance of our freshman year. We were all so excited. Our class danced to the music at the Goblin's Gallop, proving our anxiousness to be a part of Drake. our class showed determination when we gave Winter Fantasy. We worked our hearts out to make the dance a whopping success. X Q X Y X we shared theN.B.L. basketball championship with Valleio. our first Buccaneer arrived in June. We had more signatures than anyone else. the Harvest Hop. As sophomores we decorated the gym in the gayest fall colors. the Drake varsity football team beat Tam at our first day game. Gonna win tonight? Steve Halbe led us in yells. His spirit and never ceasing energy set a pattern for Drake's yell leaders. the dance where the fire department came because someone pulled a false alarm. theN.B.lL. swimming meet at Drake. We stayed all day with time out for lunch at Zip's. the first Sock Hop. Rudi Golyn won first prize for his fancy socks. the letterman dance Weight-in-Blues. The average weight of the boy and his date determined admis- sion price. Barbara Breyer and Benii Anixter paid the least. I our class rings. We shoved our hands into every- body's face to show them off. the Mardi Gras. we won the N.B.L. basketball championship by de- feating Valleio. We occupied a whole side of Val- leio's gym, yelled and screamed for Drake.- we held our memorable Junior Prom at Bermuda Palms. The whole school danced to the music of Jim Chesnut. the girls were flower bearers at graduation. During the senior farewell we all stood and took our bow as seniors. . .we raced to the Senior Bench. we came to school as seniors. My, we felt high and mighty. the flurry of costume dances- South Sea Para- dise, Me and My Shadow, Bum's Ball. the boys won the faculty-letterman game. our fabulous Spirit Week. We yelled, screamed, sang, and were our gayest that pre-game week. our thrilling Senior Ball. We talked about it all year and planned for it for three months. While we dan- ced we reminisced about old times at Drake. .we walked our straightest to Pomp and Circum- stance. Our high school days were over. most of all. . .we remember. . .the wonderful friends we made at Drake. Farewell, The Class of 1956
