In keeping with its name, the Girls' Athletic Association offers sports of all kinds. While clear skies prevailed, softball, tennis, archery, and swimming drew the members outdoors, when the rains came, they retreated to the gym for basketball, volleyball, and badminton, or to the inner recesses for tumbling, dance, and the officials and aquatic clubs. The maior emphasis of these activities was good sportsmanship and healthful par- ticipation rather than rivalry. Invitations to two playdays at Analy and the University of California were enthusiastically accepted, and a volleyball game against the women faculty rounded out the year. But sports did not completely dominate the G.A.A. scene. A reception was held for the freshmen the first week of school, and they were introduced to the Association's so- cial activities a few weeks later at the traditional beach party. At the end of each semes- ter an award banquet summed up the activities, and the fourteen winners of the coveted eighth award symbolized the organization's further goals- . .self-control, sportsmanship, perseverance, loyalty to an ideal, honesty, and reliability . . . . . .are encouraged for all. .fm av lx SPRING COUNCIL v- Front Row: Grace Diefenbach, Karin ILazar, Sharon Worlund.
