The players of football, basketball, and tennis received Student Body recognition as a result of the Awards Committee's work. Led by Norm Freed in the fall, this group supervised the awarding of athletic certificates and blocks to qualified participants in the different sports. Given to the players at a special assembly, these awards are symbols of good sportsmanship, pride, and a iob well done. Distributing, counting, and tallying ballots at each school election are the main duties of the Election-Survey Committee. Headed by Carol Girot in the fall term, this efficient group conducted the elections for fall class officers and the spring student body officers. Instead it plans, sponsors, and decorates for the many wonderful dances at Drake. The Sock Hop, given by the hep sophomore class, started the year off with a bang, while on Halloween Drakites shimmied at the Witches Wiggle. Half a cent per pound was the admission price of the Letterman dance, Weigh-in-BIues. Mistletoe Magic, sponsor- ed by the Friendship Club, was a turn-about dance held in Decem- ber. The new year started off right with DANCEI , the I. R. C. Dance held at Marin Catholic. Rod Levin and his committee worked incessantly to make all Drake's wonderful dances successful.
