Mary Marquis. B.A.. B.L.S. Assistant Librarian Carnegie Library The Simpson College Library, operating since 1907, provides Simpson students with supplementary and leisure reading, magazines, pamphlets, and other reading for classroom use. At present the library is manned by Librarian Beryl Hoyt, Assistant Librarian Mary Marquis and a staff of twelve students. The library has been recently redecorated with the painting of the reading rooms being completed during Christmas vacation. New fluorescent lighting had pre- viously been added. At present there are 37,000 volumes in the library with between 1500 and 1800 new volumes being cataloged each year. Circulation in the library ranges from 2000 to 3000 each month. In addition to these books, approxi- mately 2-40 magazines are received, including such foreign editions as The Illustrated London Nexos, The Digest Francaise, and : Universal. Seven newspapers are also included. Among the statuary in the library is that of Kali, wife of an Indian god. The type of art it represents indicates it existed before the Great Mohammedan In- vasion of the 10th century. The statue was presented to the college in 1913.
